Dog Disaster

"Biscuit! Biscuit come back here right now!" My voice remained stern as I desperately chased my neighbour's dog around the apartment block, me of all people she suggested dog sitting. The last time I had to look after an animal was when I had to check up on my friends tortoise, and I dropped it. Let's just say pet sitting wasn't my ideal way to earn money.

I could hear her panting around the floor and the elevator doors ding open, my heart began to race faster as my feet picked up pace, now I'm sure the neighbours could hear me panting over Biscuit. As I reached the doors I could see Biscuit in sight, reaching out I was seconds too late as the doors closed with Biscuit inside, a mischievous look on her face. Looks like the stairs will have to do, all eight levels of them.

As I got closer to the ground floor I could feel the sweat on my forehead, my breathing had become raspy as I struggled to keep up with my legs as I ran faster down the stairs, hoping to make it before Biscuit escapes yet again. As I saw the main doors to the reception in sight I jumped down the last few steps, straining myself as I did but barged through the doors and did a scan of the whole space for Biscuit. My eyes searched more dramatically as she wasn't in sight, worries filled my mind as I thought about what I'd tell my neighbour. 'Sorry, Biscuit escaped.' Doubt that would be a justifiable answer for her to hear when she returns home to greet her precious dog.

"Hey!" I turned around as I wiped my forehead, panting and panicking at the same time, not the ideal thing to be doing. Bringing my hand to my forehead letting out a frantic sigh I tried to straighten myself up as my wide scared eyes were greeted by soft caring blue eyes causing me to hold my breath momentarily. "I'm sorry but was that your dog in the elevator?" He let out a laugh as my eyes somehow managed to become wider and I felt my stomach drop.

Nervously I chuckled, "Erm it's my neighbours, I'm just dog sitting." I explained, "Terribly." I mumbled under my breath and heard him let out a small laugh.

"At least let me help you find them? I'm Luke by the way." He held his hand out and I shook it, keeping eye contact to be polite in my panicked state.

Letting out a shaky sigh I released my grip from his, "Y/n, and the dog's name is Biscuit." He raised his eyebrow and I could see he was going to laugh due to the ever so growing grin on his face. "Don't ask why as I have no idea either." I stated as I began to wander the main entrance for Biscuit, calling her name and whistling as I searched for her.

For a while I had little luck but as I paused I saw Luke looking intensely, asking people who came into the building and when I saw them shake their heads my worries continued to grow I find myself leaning against a pillar behind the main desk and taking deep breaths out of sight.

"Hey," Luke came and sat next to me, he placed his arm around my shoulder allowing me to lean against his chest as I wiped my eyes. "I'm sure she is around here somewhere. Just gotta keep on looking for her that's all." He said in a supportive manner, as I let out a shaky breath.

"It's just I wanted to seem capable of something. Like looking after a living thing besides myself as I'm already failing at that." I joked and heard him chuckle.

"Come on, I'm sure you've got plenty of great things going on." And I raised an eyebrow to him, not having been so friendly with a stranger in the building besides my neighbour who will now inevitably hate me. "I mean look at you, you're very pretty, have a great sense of humour and are willing to give up free time for others." He suggested and I felt a blush creep across my cheeks.

"So," I smiled to him, "you think I'm pretty eh?" A joking manner crept back into my voice as I let out a soft chuckle and he did too.

"Well that and I'm really hoping you're single." He was so bold about it I couldn't help but fall for those blue eyes and sweet voice.

"That doesn't sound creepy." I pushed myself off of him and back to my feet, seeing him pulling a face as he remained stunned on the floor, "And if you think that usually works then you've picked the wrong girl." I stated as I began to walk off calling for Biscuit.

I heard some shuffling behind me and a tap on my shoulder, "Okay okay." He held his hands up in defeat. "Say if I find Biscuit I get to take you on a date, and if you find her then I won't bother you again." He held his hand out and I pondered the thought for a minute before shaking his hand in agreement.

"Deals on, best of luck." I turned on my heels and began to walk off quickly, calling loudly for Biscuit and picked out some treats in my pocket. For a while it seemed neither of us was getting closer to finding her but I wasn't going to give in and let him win. I had to find her first.

An hour had passed and it had been a while since I'd seen Luke since I was wondering each floor looking for her. I realised how mad I must've sounded to those inside their flats as I called out for Biscuits along the corridors, but beggars can't be choosers in this case. After checking all of the floors I went back to my apartment in defeat, hoping to pick up some more dog treats and go back to find her before Luke does.

As I got out of the elevator to my floor I fumbled for my keys in my pocket and before I got to my door I heard that heavy panting. I thought I was hearing things until I looked over and saw Biscuit sat there, outside of my flat with a mischievous look on her face. "You have no idea how much stress you've put me through." I said to her as I held my ground, but those big brown eyes defeated me as I crouched down and gave her a big hug. "Nope, I'm not letting you go again that's for sure." My voice became higher as I heard her continue to pant and her tail wagging happily.

Opening my door I let her go inside but felt a bit of confusion and guilt regarding Luke who could still be searching for her downstairs. Just as I settled Biscuit down in her bed I shut the door and headed out, but just as I grabbed my keys there was a knock on my door. Opening it I let out a scoff, "You've got to be kidding me." I joked as I saw Luke stood before me. "How?" I asked and he showed me his keys.

"I'm your other neighbour." He chuckled and I stood, utterly dumbfounded. "And yes I was the one to find Biscuit, she was sniffing the bins in my flat as I came back upstairs minutes before you." I held my face in my hands and let out a sigh.

"Say 7? Tomorrow?" I asked and saw him smile.

"I'll look forward to it." He let out a soft chuckle before heading back into his place. "See you then neighbour." I shut my door and turned back to see Biscuit.

"I hope you were worth all that trouble."
