Little Ballerina

The crisp air started to weave through my hair as the window lowered itself, allowing more air to get into my car for a single moment. I continued to focus listening to my music whilst I could, knowing how much she loved her CD in the car, we didn't even need a CD but she loved how it worked, the magic car she likes to call it.

Pulling up around the corner I reel the windows backup and turn the engine off. Checking the time I was about to make it in time to see her little dance in practise, the one she's been talking about none stop since last week. Walking quickly to the hall I go inside and the inviting warmth greets me as I look through the glass doors to see multiple little girls in pink tutus and baby ballet shoes.

A small smile forms on my face as I spot her from the others, thankfully her hair has stayed in place this time, unlike last time. She spins around on the spot but falling as she tries to land, my instinct to go in and help her up kicks in but then someone else comes into a view. She crouches down in her black leotard and black leggings, her hair covering the side of her face from my view as she manages to get my little ballerina to smile again. Not giving in she continues to perfect her movement even after some of the girls file out of the class with their mothers, some of them greet me as they pass or exchange few lines of small talk.

She remains twirling for a while until she spots me and waves madly resulting in a soft laugh to escape my lips as I opened the door and headed inside. Once the door was closed she ran to me at full speed, that little tutu bobbing up and down as she pushed her little legs to their full capacity. "Daddy!" She excitedly giggled as I picked her up hugging her tightly.

Placing her down the woman from before came into view, "Hi, I'm Ashton." I held my hand out to her as she tucked some hair behind her ear and shook my hand.

"Y/n." Something seemed different, my eyes struggled to part with hers in that moment, but the persistent tugging on my trousers signalled for me to look down to my little Nina.

"Daddy, daddy guess what I've been working on?" She beamed and I shrugged my shoulders. "I've been doing peewoettes." Smiling brightly and nodding I looked to Y/n who gave me a small smile.

"That's right Nina, Pirouettes!" I let out a knowing noise as Nina moved into the open space to show me her new found skill, clapping as she did so I could see her in three years time. How she'll be slightly taller, smarter and hopefully still sticking to ballet.

Kneeling down as she finished I gave her a round of applause as she came back over towards me, collapsing into my chest. "I did good today." I let out a small laugh as I moved a loose strand out of her delicate face.

"Yes, you did very good Nina." I kissed the top of her head as I stood back up, taking her tiny hand in mine.

"Goodbye Miss Y/n!" Nina waved happily as Y/n waved back, smiling towards the two of us as we went to leave the hall, but her eyes captivated mine. How there was a glint in them that I hadn't noticed beforehand and how-

"Fudge!" I yelled as I walked into the door, Nina burst out laughing and Y/n chuckled to herself, a light blush forming on her cheeks. "See you next week." I spoke quickly before leaving with Nina, not hanging around to embarrass myself any longer.

Walking out with Nina as she jumped about and pointed her toes as she bounced down the road she mumbled words to herself before addressing me. "Daddy?" Looking down I could see her little face scrunched up. "Y/n is pretty isn't she?" This was the last question I expected to hear from my four year old daughter, I kept on walking thinking of a reply, it was only once we got to the car and I strapped her into her seat opposite mine.

"Very." I smiled to myself as I sat back in the driver's seat, putting in her favourite CD and she exclaimed with joy as it began to play. "Let's head on home Nina my little ballerina."
