As the theatre started to fill up you, along with your fellow actors waited backstage before the film would play. Your role was to say a few words, thank everyone for coming and hope they enjoy the film- easy. Or it should've been, only the fact that Michael's song was playing louder than the other songs made for the film and as you sat there with Caspar going over your lines for the speech you couldn't concentrate.
"It's just a song." You try telling yourself over and over again. Except it's useless trying as in the back of your mind you can feel his eyes on you even from within the audience, his usual smirk probably etched into his face.
A light breath could be felt from behind you and as you turned there stood your set Mum, Linda. "Just a few quick touch ups yeah?" She motioned you away from the heavy curtains and towards a more lit area, relieved you thanked her. "I know these things dear, after all I've had the pleasure of working with you for over a year." A gentle smile was always worn by her, she was a caring figure for you during these long hours and early starts.
She really pulled you through the breakup and understood how difficult it is to have him here today. "I don't want to see him again," You told her as she brushed powder across your face. "it hurts too much." The words you muttered could barely be heard, it was just for you to actually admit to yourself, that it really hurt your heart to see him here looking fine whilst you broke inside.
"Hey," She held your shoulders and held sincerity in her brown eyes, "it's a few hours and hell, you can get drunk at the after party." You couldn't help but chuckle and focus on the fact that it was a few hours, "Can you manage three hours?" Hesitantly you nodded in response. "Atta girl, now on you go." Making final touches she ushered you away after a tight supportive hug and you rejoined Caspar.
He couldn't help but look relieved to see you, "Oh thank god," He exhaled, "I thought I was going to have to go out there alone and then see you run on with me for a minute." Joking as always with you the thought of tripping over your dress crossed your mind.
"Well we couldn't have that now could we?" Nudging him he lightly chuckled just before the announcement came on for you to walk on stage.
Director, writer, producer, leading cast members. The order you went in and the second you stepped out of the curtains the bright spotlight shone right in your eyes, blinding you entirely forcing you to hold onto Caspar for support as you squinted. "Welcome, we want to thank you for joining us all today for the premiere of this movie that we all worked so hard on." Gary, the director spoke up and the audience clapped.
"Besides all of our crew behind the scenes I think our cast deserve a round of applause, don't you?" Our producer announced and everyone clapped, Caspar clapped right in your face making you laugh and as you did you felt a pair of eyes burning into the two of you. The lights were so bright you couldn't see past the first row and ignored the burning sensation.
We all said a few words about the film and what it meant to us and then there was you, the last one to say something that you had rehearsed relentlessly, even in the ride over. "I just want to say thank you to the family that this film has created, for the past 13 months and more we have been together day in day out and so much has happened," You paused realising how that could be taken, especially with him in the audience. "everyone supports one another through and through. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone here tonight to witness this incredible film- but I'm biased on that matter so I'll let you decide for yourselves." You laughed and following the round of applause you left the stage and headed down to your seats in the front row.
The film began to play and all went quiet, you relaxed in your seat as Caspar muttered things that made you giggle during the first scene you appeared in. Then it played, you were running, crying in the film and his voice sounded over the sequence. A panging returned in your heart as the voice that used to sing you to sleep or join you during dances in the morning on a Sunday.
