Hunger, that was the only reason I wandered into a busy supermarket on a saturday morning. Food being something that currently lacked in my flat I thought I'd make the most of my outing and ensure I get my exercise for the week. Looking through each aisle the wailing sound intensified causing me to try and avail myself from the noise, yet with little luck as I stumble upon the aisle with the confectionary there sits the mass sound that causes my ears to ring.
Glancing around with no one else in sight I held the items in one hand but couldn't bring myself to leave her sat there crying her eyes out. Walking towards the small bundle whose voice overpowered her whole frame, red faced and tears streaming down her tiny face. Kneeling down in front of her I smiled softly, not wanting to alarm her. "Hi, are you lost?" I remained quiet and the screams calmed down but the tears didn't stop flowing forcefully. All she did was nod and looked around desperately at all of the colourful packaged sweets, eyes as big as her belly it seemed. Noticing her top I exclaimed in joy, "Hey that's erm the Princess from that movie." Struggling I tried to think carefully at the last time I actually watched a Princess film. "You know the one with the hair and the horse." She curiously bored into my eyes, "Oh fuc-" I stopped realising the infant had stopped crying, and instead smiled. "Fudge."
"Rapunznee" She spoke up, sounding tired as she did. Clicking my fingers I sat down opposite her.
"That's the one! Rapunzel." I tried to think of some of the songs as I managed to get her to walk with me to find whoever she has lost, or whom managed to lose an infant in the first place.
As we aimlessly wandered from aisle to aisle, avoiding the fish with the eyes on ice as she screamed at the initial sight of them. We ended up by the toys as she continued to admire each and every doll she saw on display but shifted her gaze to the superheroes. "That one is Mikey's favourite." I nodded in response seeing the Deadpool toy on display.
"Really hoping you haven't seen that movie." I muttered under my breath. In the past ten, possibly twenty minutes I'd learnt enough about this Mikey to identify him in the crowds of families we passed as we sang Disney princess songs, ending up on Frozen as they were the ones both of us knew.
"Isabella?!" A loud voice yelled from behind us, turning around a young guy ran towards the two of us and I let out a sigh of relief.
Crazy hair? Check, all red and messy but it suited him. Weird markings on his arms? Tattoos of bands, check. Black? Check, rocking an all black attire. "You must be Mikey I'm guessing?" I spoke up and his gaze tore from little Isabella to me, a light blush crossed his cheeks as I saw the green in his eyes freeze up.
He stuttered momentarily before crouching down to Isabella, seeing how she was perfectly content holding onto my leg. "Sorry about this." He glanced up smiling, I shook my head in response.
"Not a problem, we just sang Frozen songs for the past ten minutes." I chuckled but remained perfectly still."Come on Issie, your mum is going to wonder where you are you know." Mikey pulled a face to her yet she remained still, emotionless.
Rocking a resting bitch face from a young age, this one will go far. "I don't wanna." She buried her face into my leg and he gave me an awkward smile.
"But your mummy will wonder where on earth her little princess will be Issie. I'm sure Mikey knows best." Raising an eyebrow to him he nodded.
Slowly she tore herself away from my leg, unwillingly she held Mikey's hand. "Can she come with us?" She pointed to me and I froze, eyes wide and resembled the look he wore.He nodded to me and I smiled politely.
"Sure she can, coffee?" I glanced between his grin and Issie's, unsure who looked happier about this.
Walking off with them Issie paused causing us to look back at her. "What are those?" Pointing to the item in my basket my cheeks began to burn up.Mikey glanced into my basket seeing the tampons and quickly looked away.
He scratched the back of his head and admired the cereals on display as if they were the most fascinating things to offer. "Something you don't need to worry about for years Issie." I chuckled and continued walking along with the two of them, learning, laughing and finding myself more at ease with the red headed sitter.
