No Secret

Standing by the glass doors all I could see were flashing lights, all so vivid and distracting amongst the calling of our names as we stood hand in hand. "You sure you're ready?" Calum spoke up breaking my gaze from the photographers and yells.

Glancing up to him I could see he was concerned, fear etched into his eyes resembling mine as we apprehensively stood inside of the hotel with luggage going to the airport. It wasn't exactly meant to happen like this, in fact this wasn't some planned occurrence- we have Ashton to blame.

What looked like an innocent video for the tour included a clip, less than a second featuring me and Calum cuddled up in the background which neither of were aware of until the internet blew up and social media broke down for the fans. It was something we knew we would have to address at some point, after all of the rumours and speculations, photos of us seen together but it was something fans called a 'dirty secret' that Calum was ashamed of me or something ridiculous.

Yet last night sat in bed we talked, we had an in depth talk on the pros and cons of telling everyone. I knew what I was in for and what would come, but it was time. For the next hour or so we both went into different hotel rooms, Calum went into Ashtons whilst Luke and Michael joined me in mine. They helped us pick photos that no one had ever seen and then I was left to write a caption.

Writing something to sum up your relationship isn't an easy matter, in fact it is hell to describe why you love someone without it seeming cliche. I pondered over the words I typed out with shaking thumbs but once I had hit share, it seemed as if the worries that had built up on my shoulders for the past year had relinquished, vanished.

Around half an hour after the post my phone was turned off and there was a light knock on the door. Opening it Calum stood there and we both put our phones in a draw, turned off and just had a night for the two of us. We didn't have to worry about people seeing, people wondering about the two of us as in that moment, in the hours we had nothing else mattered.

Which leads us to now, up before the city had fully awoken and cautious to put our phones back on due to the response we'd see. We were invisible for a little while, until we got to the lobby and I froze at the sight that waited us outside of this hotel I considered a haven.

"You sure you're ready?" Calum asked again and this time I fully heard him, what he really meant.

"Yes." There was no hesitation this time, I knew that the only way to get through this is to get it over with, like ripping off a plaster quickly and let it sting for a moment rather than let it linger.

The doors opened and there was a narrow path allowing us to get straight to the car, four guards surrounded the two of us as his hand remained tightly intertwined with mine, not dare risking letting go. Yet as we walked the twenty steps the only things that I paid attention to were the calls from fans expressing happiness. There wasn't anything bitter screamed at us, only good things which I never expected.

As we got into the car and the door shut I saw fans happily waving, no one swore at me, no one insulted us instead they let us be. Looking over to Calum he focused on me with a big smile, the one that he wore on our first date, when we first slept together and the morning I woke up with bed hair.

"Looks like we did okay." He said leaning in to kiss me.

Pulling away I couldn't help but wonder about my phone, so I did it. Turning it back on and using my data I opened the floodgates and the messages, notifications, comments came in. Scrolling through them I couldn't hide the smile I wore, fans began to make edits from videos or photos they could find hidden away, compliments about how perfect we are together were over riding negativity.

Resting my head on Calum's shoulder my smile never faded, "I think we'll be quite alright."
