As she left me to sit in her room I wandered around, taking in all of her small items from childhood, the photos of her over the years with friends and family, even the photo of us last spring when we were dancing in her garden. My eyes wandered to her book shelf, where I saw all of her books in various forms, the hardbacks and paperbacks, those that're so decorative to the simplistic ones. One in particular stood out due to it's simplicity, it was plain blue that looked worn, picking it out of the shelf I examined the front cover, no title written across it just her name.
Curiosity overtook me as I opened the book, flipping through the ink stained pages. In amongst doodles of planets, flowers and rough sketches there were some pages filled with writing, landing on one with a large title which read 'The Silence' I took the time to read it over.
Impatience can be a killer,
it can strike you whilst you wait for the happiness.
After that, happiness remains a distant memory to your soul,
something fictional.
Don't rush, don't hurry.
Take a feasible amount of time, that way you won't die.
My eyes scanned over more of the poems and short stories she had written, completely amazed by how well written they all were yet she had never mentioned them to me before. I heard her coming up the stairs but I closed the book, waiting for the perfect chance to ask her about it.
"Sorry, my mum wanted me to help her out with something that's all. You alright here whilst I was gone?" She shyly smiled as she tucked some hair behind her ear as she saw where I was stood, by all of her family photos that I rarely see. Her eyes wandered down to my hands, seeing the book I kept a tight hold of and she sighed, fidgeting on the spot. "Where'd you find that?" She asked and I glanced down to the tattered book and back to her, seeing how anxious it made her.
"It was just on your shelf, I didn't mean to be invasive it's just," I paused as I tried to find the right wording, seeing her head slowly fall, she wanted to hide her face from me. Something she does when she gets embarrassed. "really well written, like art. Lots of precision taken into account as you've written each stanza or sentence." As I explained I saw her head slowly rise, that all too familiar smile return on her face.
"You, you like it?" She mumbled as she fiddled with her thumbs. Placing the book down on the shelf I reached my hands out to connect with hers.
"I loved it." I smiled brightly to her and saw a blush forming across her cheeks. "How come you haven't told me about it before? Why don't you try anymore?" After I spoke up she went silent, before moving closer to me and picking up the book, holding it in her hands after it having collected dust for such a long time.
She flicked through all of it and I saw a ghost of a smile appear on her face, how the light shone through her window making the dust that came off of the pages appear as clear as day in the air. "This was all I had for a while," She began to explain, "I wanted to express how I was feeling for such a long time so I wrote it out, tried to reason with myself through words and thoughts. But then when you came along I didn't feel the need to bottle it all in anymore, or write it down as I felt alive." She explained, gaining confidence in her voice as she explained, a sense of pride came over me as she spoke, that I managed to do some good for her, benefited her in some way.
"Can't you write about anything else?" I suggested as I took the book from her and found the page filled with a more cheerful story, where the character found their feet without assistance.
"I guess I could, part of just forgot how along the way." She shrugged her shoulders in doubt, letting out a sigh I placed my hands on her shoulders, causing her to look up at me with confusion written across her face.
"I have faith in you to do this, because I know you can." I said before leaning down and kissing her softly, pulling away and resting my forehead on hers. "Because I love you Y/n." I mumbled and noticed her cheeks tinting pink again and giggling along with her.
