You weren't sure whether returning to Mystic Falls filled you with joy or sorrow.
More accurately- whether or not the memories that the small town conjured would be too bittersweet to bare.

>>

The annual Mikaelson ball was in less than half an hour, and as the driver escorted you through the familiar town on your way to Niklaus' mansion, everything came back to you.

As soon as the midnight black limousine that your elder brother had sent for you cruised past the welcome sign, you knew you were in for a long night.

>>

The first thing you noticed was the park. Though it had changed greatly since 1864, its lush grounds seemed solemn under the moonlight. But that night- all those years ago, when the moon was gleaming just as brightly- it was anything but.

~1864~

Hushed giggles filled the air as you and Damon ran through the park in the dead of night, hand in hand.

"Damon!" You managed through laughter, "Where are you taking me?"

"You'll find out soon enough, my dear." He grinned, continuing to lead you down the barely lit pathway, your hand secure in his.

"If your father were to find out we went out gallivanting at midnight, he would-" You began, amused.

"He won't find out." He chuckled, stopping suddenly and turning- pulling your arm gently so as your body would stop against his own, your hands resting at the front of his shirt as you smiled up at him.

"And where exactly is it you have lead me, Mr. Salvatore." You quipped.

"Look up." He smiled, his gaze firmly planted on your eyes. Quirking a brow, you slowly tilted your head upward until you found yourself staring at the most beautiful night sky you had ever seen. The moon seemed to be the he fullest you had ever seen it. And the stars- you couldn't remember ever seeing as many. Even after roaming the earth for over a thousand years, this night sky made all the others flail in comparison.

"Oh, Damon." You gasped lightly, your eyes still raking over the beautiful gleam of the stars. Slowly looking back down, you found his gaze to still be on you- a fond smile etched onto his lips.

"You are so beautiful, Y/N." He breathed. An unfamiliar warmth sparked in your chest. That's when it finally hit you. You were in love.

Eyes flickering to his lips, his gaze raked over you. Lifting a hand up to caress his face, you lightly tilted your head- closing your eyes as you met the Salvatore in a searing kiss that you wouldn't soon forget.
