//Being in a love/hate relationship and realizing you love him ++ Kol walking you home.//

With all of the werewolf hysteria plaguing New Orleans, the Mikaelsons didn't see it fit for you to walk home, especially at night, and especially since you were human.

"I'll be fine, really." You pressed, trying for the door again, only to be stopped by Rebekah.

"You won't be saying that when we find you mauled on the pavement tomorrow morning." She argued sincerely, despite the overreaction.

"Bekah, that's a tad dramatic don't you think." Kol chimed in, his cocky smirk playing on the corner of his lips, just readying his foreseeable sarcastic comment. "Surely they'd leave her on our doorstep. Werewolves are much more meticulous with their warnings these days." You rolled your eyes, shooting him a crooked smile before crossing your arms and turning your attention back to the situation at hand.

"Oh, do shut up." She spat through a scowl. "You can stay here the night. I'm not having you end up dog food." She offered.

"That'd be great, but I'm leaving for the weekend. I kinda need to pack my things." You justified, praying that she'd just let you go. You didn't particularly like the idea of spending a night under the same roof as her brother. He infuriated you. You were rarely on common-ground, but more often than not, you would find yourself thinking about him in a much more positive light than you had liked. And you didn't know what angered you more; his stupidly precise wit and sarcasm, or your seemingly unrequited feelings for the original.

Just as Rebekah had prepared her next argument as to why it was too dangerous to leave, Kol butted in with a slightly frustrated sigh.

"Stop, please. I'm afraid my eardrums will burst if I have to endure your infernal yapping another moment." He grimaced, "I'll just walk with you."

"Oh, no, really it's-" You began,

"Quick, before the dragon-lady holds you prisoner in her dungeon." He joked, pushing you out the door before the slightly infuriated Mikaelson sister had a chance to rebut.

The walk back to your house wasn't a long one, but that didn't make it any less awkward.

"Well," He sighed contently, a grin creeping onto his features as the two of you walked through the night in silence. "Not much of a talker tonight are we Y/N?"

"Well," You mimicked jokingly, "I don't suppose you'd have any particularly stimulating conversation starters, would you?" You smirked, causing a chuckle to vibrate through his chest.

"Nothing of your interest, I'm sure." He teased.

A shiver rushed up your spine as the cold breeze nipped at your skin, and you crossed your arms over your chest in an attempt to shield yourself from it

Kol noticed this, and he wasted no time in taking his jacket off and draping it around your shoulders nonchalantly. You turned to look at him; surprised by his actions, but thankful to find his eyes focused anywhere but on your own.

"Impossible." You feigned a gasp, "Is this- chivalry? From Kol Mikaelson?" He laughed, stuffing his hands into his pockets as you continued to walk. "What a scandal." You announced with a teasing grin.

"Would you rather contract hyperthermia?" He suggested, his boyish smirk admittedly sending you weak at the knees.

"I'm quite alright like this." You smiled, his eyes catching yours for just a moment under the cool moonlight. "Thank you." You added coyly.

"Here we are, casa del Y/N." You joked, stopping at your door and turning to see him off.

"Where are you going? For the weekend, I mean." He asked curiously, his thick eyebrows knit into question.

"Oh, I'm just heading down to Mystic Falls- need to catch Caroline up on all of the gossip." You laughed, "A phone call doesn't always do it justice."

"Be careful." He spoke up, "Place is riddled with vampires, so I hear." He smirked, his words coming out laced with irony as a means to deter from his sincerity, although something in his gaze seemed to click into place.

"Chivalry, and concern? You're a changed man, Kol." You feigned amazement. The tension was thick, and growing more obvious by the minute. But you kept up your playful demeanor, not wanting to get your hopes up.

"Just one that cares about you." He smiled, although this time; no joke to mask the meaning- no sarcasm to distract from the sincerity. You huffed out a small laugh, not quite accepting the caring as true,

"I'll miss you too, Kol." You teased with a grin- the feeling of bona fide compassion between you two being so foreign, that you felt obliged to dismiss it.

"Well in that case, you best kiss me before I go." He suggested, looking at you with all the affection in the world.

You stood frozen; eyes locked on his as your mind swam with options- thoughts. The world seemed to buzz around you, your head screaming as your heart pounded in your chest until finally, it all came to a standstill.

With your gaze flickering to his lips, he stepped forward, after what seemed like an eternity of going back and forth, kissing you with every ounce of passion he could muster as his fingers gently traced your jaw.

You kissed back almost instantly, hands rising up to his chest, pulling him closer as the space between you narrowed.

Pulling away slowly, and still in a haze of your own, you looked up to meet his smiling eyes and caught sight of something you'd never quite noticed before.

Him.

The gleam of the moon being outshone, and the light rain pattering on the porch; nothing but a muted tapping.

He was there. And as much as you'd denied it before, he had always been there; with you, for you, and by your side without fail.
