Turning Sixteen 3-4-18

I love the simple fact,
Where as a young kid,
We all want to turn sixteen.
It's supposed to be the greatest year of our lives...

The movies depict it as the hitting point of adulthood.
We become the most mature,
Most sexy,
Most smart,
Nerds stay nerds for the rest of their life.

Jocks stay the hot jocks they are,
And the popular will always run the fashion businesses.
It's just the way it goes right?
Only in the movies!

As the days inch closer to my birthday,
I'm starting to think,
I'm not ready to turn sixteen.

I am ready for a job,
I'm ready to start saving up for my first car,
Or my first apartment.
It's just the fact,
I'm growing up.

It scares not just me,
But my mother also.
Other people say I'm lucky,
But heaven knows I'm not.
I'm still the frightened little girl I have been since day one.

It's just the way this world turns,
It can be scary,
But it is reality.
I got thirteen more days to go...
