43. Ted Koppel's Big Night Out (Season 4, episode 9)

At the Harvard Yale game, we learn far more about Richard than we cared to. He's been having yearly lunches with his ex-fiance, he was a whiffenpoof (whatever that is), and apparently he spent an entire month totally naked in college. All these facts lend a bit more fun to Richard's usually buttoned-up personality, which is nice. Unfortunately, Emily is less than thrilled with the new revelations about her husband, particularly those involving Pennylyn Lott. This episode is really the final straw for Emily and ultimately leads to the two being separated (by the pool). We really feel for Emily at this point.

High points: Lorelai's first date with Jason was very interesting, the Harvard-Yale game produces plenty of drama and hilarity.

Low points: The beginning of Asher and Paris, Paris sort of flirting with Richard? And though I don't hate Jason nearly as much as everyone else does, he is a bit much at times, and this is the beginning of what is probably the most obvious attempt to keep Lorelai and Luke apart.
