I saw this AU on Pinterest and I love it so I'm going to make this imagine based off of the AU.
AU- when you are born you are given a necklace with half of a unique shape. Your soulmate is given the other half. The necklace gets warmer when you are closer to your soulmate, and colder when you are further.

Jane fiddles with her necklace. It has a tinge of warmth as her fingers rub the metal shape. She had always wondered who her soulmate was, but never had she met them. "Jane?" A voice calls, and she looks up to meet eyes with her father."Are you ready for your first day of school?" Her dad asks, in his sheriffs uniform. Jane was adopted by Chief Jim Hopper 5 years ago, and had been homeschooled for the most of her life. Just a month ago, her father had agreed to her going to school.
Jane nods eagerly. She had waited for this day for a month, the day she could finally go to school. "Let's go." He smiles softly at her.
She gets up, and grabs the bad she had stuffed with school supplies the week before. She takes one last look in the mirror, analyzing her outfit. She was wearing a long oversized red jacket, baggy light blue jeans, and her favorite black sneakers.
"Jane, don't worry. You look great." Jim assures her, seeing her look nervously at her outfit. Jane licks her dry lips, and follows her father to his truck.
"You excited?" He asks, once they got in the truck. Jane nods slowly, she was excited but worried thoughts were swimming inside her mind.
"You'll do great. It is scary at first, but you will learn so much more than what I could ever teach you." He sighs, as the school comes closer in vision.
Jane nods, seeing the school. She smiles to herself.
Jim stops the car, in the drop off area. "Be good okay? And please, have fun." He says, as Jane gets out of the truck. Jane smiles, hugging him briefly before jumping out of the truck.
She sighs, closing the door behind her. A smile tugs her lips, as she takes in the view in front of her.
She suddenly feels a burst of heat from her necklace, and soon feels someone ram into her. She falls back, letting out a strangled scream of surprise.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry!" A voice says, and she looks up to see a boy on top of her. She takes in his appearance. He has deep chocolate brown eyes, dark curly hair, and a faint pink tint on his cheeks. She clears her throat before saying "It's fine. I should have been paying attention."
"I'm the one who rammed into you like a dork." He chuckles, getting up and holding his hand out for her to rise too. She takes it, and feels her necklace and face bursting with heat.
Mike feels it too, the flaming necklace pressed against his bare skin underneath his sweater. "I'm.. I'm Mike." He stutters, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Jane." She replies, biting her lip. Mike looks at her necklace, and his eyes widen when he realizes that the shape matches his necklace perfectly.
"Um... are you n-new here?" Mike asks, cheeks getting redder. Jane nods, eyes locked on his. "That's cool... do you maybe want to hang out with my friends? Since you d-don't know anyone h-h-here?" He nervously asks.
Jane giggled at how cute he is. She fiddles with her necklace, before looking back up at him. "Sure. I would love that." She replies, lips forming a soft smile.
Mike stares into her chocolate eyes, almost getting lost in them. "R-Right." He stops himself.
"Mike!" A voice calls, soon followed by a boy with curly hair, who rushes up to Mike. "Come on we have to see if we have science together!" The boy shouts, before seeing Jane.
"Hey, who are you?" He asks bluntly. "I'm Jane. I'm new..." She nervously smiles. He nods, holding his hand out, she shakes it. "Dustin. May I ask what you and Mike were talking about?" He questions, seeing Mike's flaming red face.
"I invited her to hang out with us... if that's okay?" Mike looks at Dustin, and Dustin lightly smirks.
"Yeah, sure." Mike smiles at him, and Jane can't help but notice how adorable his smile is. "Well, sorry to take him, but we're going to go see if we have the schedule we deserve to have together." Dustin says, tugging at Mike's arm.
"Yeah... I'll.. I'll s-see you at lunch, Jane." He says, and Jane smiles.
"Hopefully earlier, but yeah." She smiles, he smiles back before going back to his friends.
She feels her necklace get colder, and she blushes. "So he's my soulmate." She whispers to herself.
She grins to herself. She was lucky for him to be her soulmate.
"Thank you dad..." She mutters to herself, before rushing into the school to get her schedule.
