MILLIE'S P.O.V
Green.
The color of the pencil that he hands me. It's pattern is simple; dark green with light green stripes. But the way Finn Wolfhard is handing me one of his pencils makes my palms slowly grow sweaty.
I take it gently, mumbling a small thank you. He grins at me, and turns back to the front of the classroom. The way he makes me feel with just a simple glance, yet he doesn't seem affected by his actions towards me.
"So, this is why x= 264, does everybody understand?" Our math teacher concludes, her green eyes sweeping the classroom.
No one speaks up, everyone clearly very bored. Even if we are in advanced Algebra, nobody finds it interesting.
I, on the other hand, am not listening for a different reason. My heart is still beating rapidly, as if I had just run in gym, and my palms are sweaty. I rub them against my navy sweater, trying to get rid of any noticeable sign of my flustered behavior.
I have liked Finn since the 8th grade, the moment I saw him walk into my advanced science class, I knew I was done for.
And here we are, in the 11th grade, and my feelings haven't changed expect for getting stronger.
But he barely notices me, he's too good for me. There are probably hundreds of girls lining up, wanting so badly to ask him to Homecoming. I am included in the long list of girls, but unlike all of the girls who are asking him constantly, I sit back.
I know I have no chance with him.
"Hey, Finn." A girl who sits next to Finn, Jessica, whispers. Her bright green eyes glance at me momentarily, holding a glare, before finding their way back to Finn.
"What?" He whispers back, his eyes still locked upon the board as he writes down notes. "Do you want to go to homecoming with me?" She asks confidently, a small smirk tracing her lips.
I sigh, copying down the notes as my heart squeezes with jealousy. I wouldn't be surprised if he agreed to go with Jessica; she was the school's "it" girl.
Everyone loved Jessica. She was the captain of the debate team, she was captain of the volleyball team, and she even had a whole page in last years yearbook dedicated to her.
But his next words shocked me tremendously.
"Sorry Jessica, I'm not interested. But thank you." He politely declines, and she lets out a gasp. "Come again?" She asks, faking a smile.
"I'm already planning on asking someone. I appreciate your offer, but I'm not interested." He turns to her, gives her a smile, and then turns back to the board.
While his words should have given me relief, they only made my heart clench tighter. I wonder who he's planning on asking?
***"What's going on?" I ask, the commotion catching my attention. A large crowd had gathered in the cafeteria, around something I couldn't see.
"I don't know." Lilia said, and stood up, along with Sadie and Noah. We rushed to the the crowd, trying to peek over the many students.
"Guys move!" The loud voice of Caleb shouts, and everyone obeys. Caleb was one of the most popular boys in our school.
The crowd separates, revealing the sight of Finn standing in the middle of the crowd. He turns his attention to me, and my eyes slightly widen at his gaze.
He picks up the sign on the ground, and turns it to me.
There, in green lettering, were the words "Millie, will you go to homecoming with me?".
He smiles nervously at me, and walks to me. I stand, stunned, as he places the sign on the floor, carefully taking my hands in his.
"Millie... since the 8th grade I've always had a little crush on you. I thought you were cute, and incredibly smart. But over the course of the past few years, my feelings have only grown. I'm not usually a wimp, but when it came to being around you, I didn't have the guts to talk to you as much as I wanted to. But I want to change that. So.. Millie, will you go to homecoming with me?"
The crowd lets out "awwws", they all adored Finn. I could see some girls huff in anger, desperately wanting to be the girl asked.
I gulp, and seeing that his expression is 100% sincere, I nod. A grin grows on his face, and my face replicates his smile.
"I'd love to." I say quietly, feeling my cheeks flare up. He wraps his arms around me, my face being buried into his chest.
The feeling of his body against mine is new, but I immediacy fall in love with it. I fiddle with my deep green sweater, embarrassed from all of the attention upon us.
"Let's get outta here, yeah?" He asks, and I nod against him.
***"So that's how your mommy and daddy started dating." Millie smiles at her two children, Rosa and Mike.
"How was homecoming, mommy?" Rosa asks, and Mike cuddles against Finn.
"It was great. Your daddy was such a gentleman." Millie giggles as Finn teasingly glares at her.
"Will I ever find someone as nice as daddy?" Rosa asks, as Mike yawns. Finn coughs awkwardly.
"If he passes the test." Millie rolls her eyes as Finn sternly looks at Rosa.
"What test?" Rosa asks, confusion written on her young and smooth face. Millie and Finn made gorgeous children, and all of their high school friends made sure to remind them as much as possible.
"The boyfriend test." Finn states, causing Millie to snort. "You're scaring her." She laughs. "Rosa, he's just being a typical dad. He wants he best boy for you, but not yet. You're only 5."
Rosa grins, showcasing her small teeth with one hole in the midst.
"Now, it's past your bedtime. We let you two stay up to hear the story, but now it's your bedtime." Finn clasps his hands together, and leads Mike to his room.
"Mommy, how much do you love daddy?" Rosa asks, as Millie tucks her daughter in her emerald green bed.
"Too much to be put in words." Millie softly whispers, smiling down at her sleepy child. "I want that." Rosa whispers, her eyes slowly closing.
"You will one day."
Millie places a gentle kiss on Rosa's forehead.
She then walks out of the bedroom, closing the door with a soft click. Finn closes the door at almost the exact same moment. He smiles cheekily at her.
"I love you, you know that?" He asks, wrapping his arms around her waist.
"I love you too." She smiles. She had loved him since the 8th grade, and now they are 32 years old, with 2 children, and she has never loved him more.
"And to think my amazing life with you started with that green pencil."
