a/n: i'm working on part 3 of i want to hate you but it's taking a bit longer due to writers block and my shit tom of homework that i've put off for too long so i just wrote this real quickly so you guys have SOMETHING

- so mike was on the school bus with lucas one day because they lived close to each other and it was too cold for them to bike to school
- he didn't mind tbh, as long as he didn't sit in the front
- as he takes his seat he notices a girl only a few rows in front of him
- his jaw fucking DROPS
- bc this girl that he had never noticed before was fucking gorgeous yet he never noticed that ??
- he was genuinely concerned for never noticing such an angel
- but that angel is sitting two rows in front of him with a sketchbook on her lap and her curly hair gently resting against the back of the bus seat, with a few strands framing her angelic face
- el feels a gaze on her so she turns around and flushes a deep red when MIKE WHEELER was staring at her
- el had a huge crush on mike ever since grade school so him staring at her as if she was the brightest star in the galaxy surprised her
- but she didn't say anything
- she usually didn't
- she developed a stutter at a young age due to her mouth not being able to form certain sounds or words as quickly as everyone else
- her dad, the chief of hawkins, claimed that her mind moved faster than her mouth could
- she just claimed she was stupid
- poor bby :(
- but she was bullied in grade school for having a stutter so she learned to shut up
- it was lonely but she protected herself

- still staring
- still screaming in his mind for never noticing the beauty two rows ahead
- he nudged lucas
- who rolls his eyes because he's exhausted and just got nudged really hard in the ribs
- "what?"
"who's that girl two rows ahead?"
"dunno, think her name is el or something"
"that's pretty"
"you know what else is pretty?"
"what?"
"you shutting the fuck up so i can get a quick nap"
- mike keeps pining over el for weeks
- everyone in the party wants to blow their brains out while he pines and it took dustin yelling at mike to "grow a pair" for him to talk to her
- he sits next to her in chemistry ;)
- and asks her how her day was
- she only shrugs, scared to talk
- he continues asking her things, and telling her some things, hoping for a response but only getting a few nods
- he carries on trying for a few days, feeling discouraged by her lack of response
