"Hello??" El calls, knocking on the door of Dustin's small but modernized for the time's home. The sun beamed down at El's side from the glass foyer, making El wipe away the small bead of sweat that had formed near her hair.
No response came to El's knocking for a while.
El sighed, taking a small step back, and channeling her powers to unlock the door. She slowly walks in, closing the door quietly behind her.
"El!" Max calls, before seconds later her figure rushes into the living room, enveloping El in a bear hug.
El's face was shoved into Max's shoulder, as Max made sure to shield El as Lucas and Will pushed Mike past the living room.
"Hi." El mumbles against Max's yellow polo shirt.
Max sends a quick glance over her shoulder, and once she confirms that Mike isn't in sight, she releases El from her death grip.
"Where is everyone else?"
"Uh... bathroom?" Max cringes at her own lie, she was really beginning to blow it now.
"Why... would they all be in the bathroom?" El's brows knit together, a feature that commonly crossed her face, as El scanned Max's hesitant face.
Max lets out a nervous laugh, attempting to smooth it over. "Boys, huh?"
"Yeah... boys." El repeats slowly.
"Anyways! I was thinking we could play a game?" El's chocolate eyes brighten in excitement.
"What game?"
"... Monopoly?" God this hurt.
"Okay! Where does Dustin keep the board games?" El asks, spinning around the room to search for the package of her favorite board game.
"In the closet over there." Max points towards the closet that Will and Lucas had previously sent Mike to.
El nodded before taking the minimal steps towards the closet door. She then twisted the door handle, and opened the creaky closet door.
A shadow was crouched at the bottom shelf, rummaging through the contents. El froze as the figure sighed, running a hand through the curly mop upon the shadow's head. El knew those messy curls anywhere; Mike.
What the fuck was he doing here?
Mike turned on his bent knees, the light from outside catching his attention. He looked up at the figure of El, her curly hair slightly brighter due to the sun's light beaming on her from the living room window.
Why was she here?
"Mike??"
"El?"
"QUICK!!! FUCK DUSTIN HURRY UP!" Lucas screeched from behind the counter, as Max, Dustin, Lucas, and Will rushed to lock the door. They then began to barricade the door with any object they could find.
"What the fuck guys?!" Mike yelled from behind the now locked door.
El took a step back from the door, and began concentrating on the door handle. She swore she saw it begin to unlock before something caused it to return to it's locked position.
"ELEVEN STOP USING YOUR POWERS THATS UNFAIR!" Will screamed, his last minute plan seemed to work well enough; he had noticed the door lock begin to become undone, so naturally he shoved a small metal pick in the lock to keep it in that position.
"Unfair??? You're the ones who locked us in here!" El yelled back, wiping her nose as a few drops of blood had begun falling.
"The one person I have to be locked with." Mike mumbled, sliding down the wall of the closet, and tucking his head into his bony knees.
"How about you shut up while I try to get us out?" El snapped, turning her head so fast to him that she could feel it begin to feel sore.
"Sorry, jesus." Mike replied.
"Let us out!" El yelled.
"No!! Not until you guys make up and confess your undying love for each other!" Dustin replies.
"Undying love?" Mike scoffed.
"Yes."
"Okay hear me out! I'm sorry we're locking you in here but we're all sick of you guys bickering and we decided to do something! We're not letting you out until you apologize and agree to be civil!" El wanted to cry out of frustration at her friends.
They didn't seem to understand; El didn't want to be civil with Mike.
Sure it didn't make sense, but it did to her. El was never good with expressing her feelings to other people. So when she tried to confess how she wanted to dance with Mike at the Snowball, she fucked up royally and told him how stupid he looked. They had always been on fairly good terms before then, at least, they were no where near as tense as they were now. Yet Mike was already irritated for some unknown reason, so her harsh words didn't ease his frustration. He had yelled at her that he didn't care, didn't need an opinion from a dumb girl, etc etc.
From then on, El made it her mission to mask any sort of admiration or school girl crush she for Mike under hatred. It became her disguise from how much she wished he could look at her as someone other than an enemy. So when she was faced with the decision (truly it was just her being forced to, but alas) to put on her hatred mask, she wanted to push it away to keep her feelings out of the already messy situation.
She didn't want Mike to know that every time he walked into a room, her lips curved into the tiniest of smiles. She didn't want Mike to know that every time he glanced at her, teasing or calm, her heart stuttered. She didn't want Mike to know that she cared so god damn much about him that when he was nearly hurt at the hospital, and she didn't know if he was okay or not, she nearly lost her mind.
She didn't want Mike to know that she was slowly but surely falling for him.
But she didn't think he was going to catch her.
"Like I'm going to make up with her." Mike said with such loathe that it knocked El out of her thoughts.
El's stomach twisted into knots. He wouldn't apologize anytime soon, and it was clear.
It was going to be a while that they were locked in the small, and stuffy, closet.
