It's sad when I've completely changed who I am due to my depression, and my family doesn't even bat an eye.

They loved each other.

He loved her, and she loved him. Everyone around them knew that their behaviors were more than "just friends".

Shouldn't that mean that they begin dating, and live happily ever after?

But it was so much more complicated than that.

Finn fell in love with Millie when she showed up at the Homecoming dance. Her hair was tightly curled, the sharp curls bouncing with each step. Her face was painted with a thin layer of makeup, her lips glossed and eyes gently covered with a nude shade. She wore a long black dress, with a slit traveling up her thigh, and ending near the top of her leg. She was like a goddess on earth.

Millie fell in love with Finn slowly. Going from great friends, to her starting to realize the small quirks about him. The way he bit his lip while reading. The way his eyebrows furrowed when he was doing his homework. The way he ran a hand through his messy curls when he was tired. Everything about him that she never took a second glance at soon became the things she loved most. She found herself craving his touch, and his attention.

They soon grew distant. Millie wasn't sure about how she felt for her childhood friend. She had known him so long, but now she found herself wanting to be much more than friends. Finn didn't want to ruin their friendship. They had known each other since they were 6, and she was the closest person he had in his life.

But their sudden change in their friendship did not go unnoticed.

"Mills, what's going on with you and Finn?" Noah asks, taking a bite out of the light red apple. She sighs, glancing towards the table that Finn sits at. He talks with Caleb, but he seems to be in a daze. She turns back to Noah, and shrugs.

"Nothing, why?" Noah rolls his eyes. He looks over at Finn, and notices that Millie and Finn share the same expression.

"Mills, I may not have been your friend for as long as Finn, but I know when something's wrong. Just tell me." Millie bites her bottom lip, and shakes her head.

"I gotta go." She breathes, standing up and collecting her food. She places it on the tray, and rushes to the trash can. She dumps the food in, and places the tray in the stack, before rushing out of the cafeteria.

Noah sighs, and takes a sip of his milk. Something wasn't right.

Months later, Millie finally realized the cause of her newfound feelings for Finn. She had fallen in love.

And it scared her, so much.

They still hung out together, of course. They may have been dealing with their sudden change of perspective about each other; but they couldn't just throw away their amazing friendship.

But their friendship was strained. Millie would tell Finn she was busy to escape their plans. Finn would pretend to be extremely tired (which in truth was not a complete lie, he often stayed up very late with his mind rushing with thoughts about Millie).

And then one day, everything they worked on had changed.

"Mills, please don't cancel on me this time. I miss you." Finn says through the phone, his voice laced with a thin layer of desperation. Millie sighs, and runs a hand through her hair.

"Fine. Where are we going to meet?" She states, her voice heavy.

"My house. Now." He demands, and Millie rolls her eyes. "You got it, chief." She says sarcastically, hanging up.

She rises from her bed, and slips on a hoodie. It was an old hoodie she stole from Finn, and it still had the faint scent of him. He smelled of peppermint and oak; a strange combination, but still made Millie feel safe.

She shoves her phone in her pocket, and rushes downstairs. Her parents weren't home, not that they ever were, so she could easily walk out of the front door of her small house.

She didn't live far from Finn. They grew up having many play dates, since they only lived about a few streets away. She walks quickly, wanting to get over with their meeting.

Her mind drifts off. Everything that had been piling in her mind for the past few weeks came back. Why did she have a shift of feelings for Finn?

They used to be best friends. Their friendship was admirable. Finn would make sure they were partners at school. Millie would organize hangouts. They even went to homecoming together, since neither had dates.

But now, they were almost like strangers. They greeted each other, and hung out every so often. But it was nothing like what they used to be.

Snapping away from her deep and confusing thoughts, she realizes that she had already reached his door. She knocks loudly, and shoves her hands back in the hoodie pocket.

Finn opens the door soon after, and gives Millie a small smile. She nods, her lips pursed as he allows her to enter.

He closes the door behind her, and Millie feels strange. The house she used to consider a second home now felt like a stranger's house.

"What's up?" She asks, and Finn furrows his eyebrows. "What do you mean?" He asks, stepping closer to her.

She steps back slightly, and Finn frowns. "We don't talk much anymore, so why'd you suddenly call me and ask me to come over?" She asks, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Because. We don't talk much anymore." He states, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"And?" She glares at him, and he frowns deeper.

"What's gotten in to you? You're acting really strange, and at first, I just thought you needed some alone time! But this has been going on for weeks, Mills. Just tell me what's wrong." His eyes soften, as he places a hand on her shoulder.

"I'm in love with you!" She yells, and freezes after she processes her words. His face pales slightly, and she feels as if she would throw up.

"You-what?" He stutters, his eyes wide.

"I....I gotta go." She breathes, and rushes out of the house.

Finn stands in shock. "I love you too." He whispers.
