AU- everyone is born with a ring on their finger. The rings color represents your soulmates emotion (red for anger, yellow for joy, etc).
***

Eleven messes absentmindedly with the ring upon her finger. She sighs, wishing so bad that she could meet her soulmate. Her ring emits a deep blue color, indicating that her soulmate was asleep. "I wish I could meet you, soulmate." She whispers, biting her lip.

She was 17, and all of her other friends had already found their soulmates, and were living happy lives with them. But not her. She was left with this void of emptiness inside of her already cold heart.

The one friend who comforted her no matter what, was Mike Wheeler. But she didn't want to be just friends with him. Over the past 7 years of their friendship, she had developed feelings for him. Deep feelings that scared her at times.

But he couldn't possibly return her feelings, and the chances of them being soulmates were very slim. But Eleven couldn't help but hope that maybe, just maybe, the universe had destined them to be together.

She stares out of the window, eyes growing drowsy from the sight of the dark night sky, the stars and moon twinkling down upon the exhausted young girl.

The ring shifting to a dark gray goes unnoticed by her, as she closes her eyes, sleep overcoming her within minutes.

Mike takes a deep breath, before climbing quickly up the ladder. He ducks down, and walks lowly to the window, trying to not be seen by the neighbors, who had already scolded him 3 times for sneaking onto his friend's roof.

He creeps to the window, and stops when he sees Eleven, her head rested against her palm, eyes closed as her body gently rises up and down. He softly smiles, not even noticing how he had done so.

His ring is a dark blue, and he fiddled with it. Her being asleep, and his soulmate being asleep had to have been just a coincidence. Right?

He lightly taps on the window, guilt panting slightly at his chest, but he ignores it. He had to hear her words of comfort.

She wakes up, slightly startled. Mike knew how much of a light sleeper she was. He raises his hand up in an awkward wave, shooting her an apologetic glance. She rolls her eyes, but stops when she notices the tears in his gorgeous brown eyes.

She quickly unlatches the window, pushing it up enough for him to slide in. "Hey, what's wrong?" She whispers, closing the window after Mike settles inside the room.

A tear slides down his face, and her heart breaks at the sight. "Come here." She mumbles, and opens her arms, Mike walking into them quickly. He cries softly into her, as she runs her hands through his curls gently.

They stay there for a while, Mike just crying, Eleven waiting patiently to find out why he had shown up at her room at 2 in the morning, in tears.

He pulls away slowly, almost as if it was hesitant. He wipes his face with the sleeve of his jumper, before meeting eyes with her. "I had... I had a really bad dream." He mumbles, face flushing as he realizes how wimpy he sounds.

"I'm sorry... I'm being a baby." He quickly apologizes, dropping his gaze to his feet, as he shifts them nervously. Elevens ring slowly turns to a light pink, as Mikes turns a soft blue.

"Don't apologize. Do you want to talk about it?" She asks, brushing away a strand of his hair that had fallen over his eye.

He nods, and sits down on her bed, her following soon after. "You...you died in my nightmare. At it was all my fault." He says, so quietly that if they weren't a few inches away from each other, Eleven wouldn't have heard him.

"It's okay, Mike. I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere." She whispers, her gaze shifting to his soft lips. She bites her lip, wishing that she could kiss him.

Mike notices her gaze, and blushes slightly. Elevens eyes shift over to her ring, and notices the ring is the same color of Mike's cheeks. Mike furrows his eyebrows, looking down at his to see a matching color.

They look at each other, cheeks both tinted the same rose color. "Are we-?" Eleven starts, but is cut off by a pair of soft lips on hers.

She slightly gasps, but recovers quickly, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her.

Something inside of her was doing flips, and her emotions were through the roof with happiness. Both of their rings burst with a bright yellow color, but neither noticed, too wrapped up in the kiss.

They pull away after what feels like an eternity of perfection. She smiles, her heart ponding against her chest. He returns it, and begins playing with a loose strand of her curly hair.

"I love you, Eleven Jane Hopper." He whispers, foreheads against each other, neither wanting to ever let go.

"I love you too Michael Wheeler." She smiles, placing her lips once more on his.
