One after another, the days started to pass and the date of the contest was near.
Each morning the Queen slipped away from the palace after her husband had fallen asleep and walked the path that led her to the place where Krist was picking fruits for her beloved mother.
This was how she learned that the young man, unlike what she had previously thought, had not signed up for the contest but, as every year is done, the people from the village choose a person that has to enter the pageant regardless of what that person wants.
The queen sighed tiredly.
For a moment she had thought about convincing the boy to withdraw his candidacy. Unfortunately, that was not going to be possible in his case, which undoubtedly left her with a single viable plan.
Meanwhile, in the palace, Singto smiled as he approached his father's bedroom. He had just been informed that his best friend Bass was going to be able to spend a few days with them.
So the young man, feeling the joy of someone who knew that very soon he would be accompanied by his companion of mischief, approached quickly the heavy doors and, with a slight knock, went into the dark bedroom without even waiting for permission.

What he observed upon entering the room filled him with astonishment. His father, alone in bed, was completely asleep while the Queen was not anywhere in the large room. Not even in the bathroom or in the dressing room.
Singto tried to wake up the young monarch. However, after shaking him for several minutes, he only succeeded in making the man groan under his breath and change his position.
The young prince frowned, thinking what could be happening.
TAP TAP TAP....
Some footsteps could be heard faintly on the carpet that were in the hallway. Footsteps that finally stopped in front of the bedroom doors.
Singto started to look from a way to escape when, with his heart beating like a jungle drum, he noticed that the door handle was already moving.
The young man quickly left the bed and stood in a gap between the heavy curtains that covered the large windows of the bedroom and the fireplace.
A good hiding place that he had used since he was little, when he played hide and seek with his mother in those spacious rooms while waiting for his father to come back from some urgent and heavy meeting.
From there he could observe how the Queen opened the door carefully and entered, trying to be seen by no one, inside the bedroom.
Singto could not believe what he was seeing as the woman, who usually wore clothes of famous designers, was wearing a simple skirt with a matching plain shirt, a fitted corset and some sneakers.
The Queen, not noticing that she was being observed, took off her tattered shoes and, with them in her hand, stepped into the dressing room.
It was at that moment when the young prince came out from his hiding place and went, almost running, towards the bedroom doors.
Finally, trying not to make any kind of noise, he left the room while thinking about what he had seen and how to find out what was happening.
