TIMELESS LOVE
That morning everything seemed to be as always.
The books stacked neatly on the bookshelf, the notebooks of the classes on the table.
The plane ticket to China, inside the envelope with the logo of the airline.
Wait!...Just a moment...
China?!
Kongpob stood up abruptly and, pushing the soft sheets away from his naked body, sat up on the bed.
His eyes scanned the walls of the room, the clothes placed neatly on the wall hanger ... until they rested on the ticket and in a box that, right next to it, contained a very important gift ... a gift that he thought he'd give Arthit before going into that plane.
"Although ... after our last phone conversation ... I do not even know if I'll see him again," Kong told himself, letting out a helpless sigh.
After all, he still remembered quite clearly the words of his Sun, how he had ended up saying goodbye to him while crying.
Kongpob sighed again as he ran a hand through his already quite scrambled hair.
- "If only he has a little more confidence in our love ... in our relationship" - murmured the young man - "if only he was less prone to get carried away so much by the opinions of others".
As, once again, the comment of one of his friends had made his P'Arthit rethink their relationship ... and what could happen now that he was going to study in a Chinese University for several years.
Long Distance Relationships do not last ...
Love tends to be forgotten and other people end up occupying the place that your lover used to have ...
"True in many cases ..." Kong though as he looked again at the black box - "but not in many others. It all depends on how people are and if they are willing to fight in order to maintain their relationship while being away".
But Arthit had not understood it that way.
No..
The young man had simply given up.
- "And now ... now I have to go away while leaving him here" - he mused with a touch of sadness in his voice - "completely alone and without having the time to fix this mess".
A tear began to descend his cheek, followed immediately by several more.
"I do not want to ... I do not want to leave him like this!"
Kongpob buried his face bathed in tears in his arms, not noticing a pair of eyes that were watching him from the other side of the room.
A pair of eyes that, reddened by having been crying for a long time, could only silently accompany the young man who, already broken, was relieving his pain on the soft sheets of his bed.
--------------------------------
- "Kong ... I'm so sorry" - Arthit murmured as he took a few steps towards the boy - "it's my fault"
After which, he placed a hand on Kong's shoulder.
Hand that immediately went through the body of the young man.
- "I already told you that you won't be able to touch him" - said a voice at his side - "let alone communicate with him ...".
Arthit sighed and, turning his head slightly, looked sideways at the young woman who, sitting in one of the seats that were in the room, smiled ironically at him.
- "I know already ... you do not have to remind me about it" - growled Arthit as he looked back at his Kong.
The boy, with a depressed expression on his face, had just left the bed and, taking his clean clothes in his hands, was heading towards the bathroom.
The girl, tilting her head to one side, let out a slight sigh.
- "This is worse than I imagined ... and to think that they told me it was going to be an easy job" - said the girl as she got up from her seat and, with a tired gesture, approached Arthit until she was a few centimeters away from him - "tell me one thing ... if you love him so much, why did you break up with him?"
Arthit sighed.
- "I ... I got scared"
- "I do not understand ... I really can not ..." - the girl murmured while shaking her head - "you humans are too complicated ..."
The young man looked at the girl.
- "For all that I know, you were also human ..." - Arthit reminded her, earning a snort in response.
- "It's been so long ago that I do not remember anything about it... now I am what I am ... a Guide between the human world and the Other Side.
Arthit made a slight grimace with his lips.
"If only I had not crossed that street without looking ... now I would not be in this situation."
But the worst thing...
The worst thing was, without a doubt, having to say goodbye to his Kongpob.
To his Moon.
The only person he had ever loved and would never forget.
"Even if he continues with his life ... even if he meets someone else and forgets me ...", though the young man, "I will never stop loving him".
But...
I can not be selfish ...
I can not wish for him to hold on to my memory.
"You must keep going, my Kong ... even if I am not by your side".
- "Let's go ..." - whispered Arthit as he turned towards the girl.
She nodded and, with a slight gesture of her fingers, moved them to another place ... just as the bathroom door opened and a young man in underwear came out while he finished drying his hair with one of the towels.
- "It's time... and he hasn't even called me..." - mumbled Kongpob, sighing sadly - "if it's what you want ... I'll continue with my life ... I just hope for you to be happy, Arthit"
After which he took the velvet box and, looking at it one last time, put it inside his desk drawer along with a chain with a gear ... a gear that ... that did not mean anything anymore.
