"I'm just finishing up your drinks!" Nina peeked over the tall espresso machine as she heard the officers walking in with Sarge trotting in front of them.

"Good, that will give me time to tell you my joke for today!" Jake announced while coming over to the counter while Chris just followed behind him, shaking his head.

"Today's is phenomenally bad," Chris leaned an arm on the counter and warned Nina. "I don't think even you can fake a laugh at this one."

"Okay, what is it Jake?" Nina grabbed a white porcelain cup and turned the handle to let the hot coffee flow into the cup.

Jake started snickering before he composed himself and told her, "Okay, so how did the telephone propose to his girlfriend?"

"How?" Nina humored him while handing him his coffee before grabbing another cup so she could finish Chris'.

"He gave her a ring!" He finished before cracking up.

Chris shook his head while looking at Nina who was laughing but not at the joke, "Okay Jake that one was really horrible."

"Told you," Chris nudged his partner. "And if even Nina is willing to admit it was bad, then it must be really bad because she's always nice enough to pretend to think you're funny."

Jake just protested, telling his partner that he really was funny while Chris just kept teasing him and telling him that he got his material off of popsicle sticks. Nina laughed at the pair before finishing Chris' drink and handing it to the tall handsome officer.

The officers had come in every day they had worked for the past three weeks and the three had quickly fallen into their little routine. Nina would have their drinks on their table ready for them when they came in, along with a napkin underneath their cups with a little doodle she drew for each of them. For Jake, she usually illustrated the silly joke he had told the previous day and for Chris, she normally had drawn her favorite dog that had come into the shop or a picture of Sarge. She never forgot the dog either and had bought treats to keep at the shop so she could give one to the dog every morning so Nina was always Sarge's favorite person to see.

They all had gotten very used to one another but for Chris and Nina, seeing each other was the best part of their day. Chris was completely smitten with the sweet and charming woman. Everything she did put him further under his spell. The way her short wavy hair swung around her beautiful face, her adorable loud laughter, her sweet tone and attentiveness to their stories, how she doted on Sarge, but hands down his favorite thing was seeing her wide beautiful smile as soon as they opened the door to the coffee shop. Her smile was warmer than the coffee and it was bright enough to light up the greyest drizzly Seattle morning.

It was obvious that Nina was just as enamored with the handsome officer and even though the two subtly flirted just a bit, it had never gone any farther than that. Jake spent quite a bit of time teasing Chris about his crush and he finally had gotten to admit how beautiful she was but that was as far as he got. Chris took relationships seriously and even though he had countless women hitting on him, he never paid much attention, content to wait for someone he really was someone he wanted to be with. Word had gotten around the police station about Chris' new crush and so many of the officers had gone to the coffee shop to see the object of Chris' affections and since had jumped in on teasing their fellow officer much to Chris' dismay.

"Sarge, want your treat?" Nina asked while Chris and Jake took their seats at their usual table.

The obedient dog looked up at his Master who nodded to tell him he could go so the dog bounded through the empty shop to get to Nina. She bent down and gave the dog his treat and petted his soft fur while he happily ate the treat.
