"Daddy.... Daddy, are you seeping?" The little brunette toddler loudly whispered.
Chris' eyes fluttered open and softly smiled when he saw his little son standing there in his superhero pajamas and his short brown eyes poking every which way from just waking up.
"No, I'm not sleeping," Chris told him. "Daddy's still sick so I'm staying home from work today. Bud, if you want breakfast, go down and see Mommy."
Jack shook his head and pouted his lower lip out while telling his dad, "My tummy hurts and I feel yucky."
"Are you sick?" He reached out and felt Jack's forehead that was burning up. "Aw buddy, come get in."
Chris moved his aching body over in the bed and lifted the sheets so that Jack could climb in. The little boy quickly scooted over and snuggled up against Chris' chest. He wrapped his arms around his son and rubbed his back while resting his own aching body.
As if Nina wasn't enough of a nurturer already, when her beloved Chris was either hurt or sick, it only threw her into full gear. As tough as Chris was, he always secretly liked the way he would fuss over him and make sure he was taken care of and then some.
When she walked back into the room with a plate of eggs for Chris that would be easy on his stomach, Nina noticed their little boy in bed with his father. She found it so adorable to see her boys cuddling together but she didn't want Jack to get sick so she put Chris' breakfast down and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Sweetheart," Her words were gentle as she reached out and rested her hand on Jack's back.
"He's sick too," Chris' low voice vibrated.
"I feel yucky," Jack whimpered.
"Oh honey!" She cooed, reaching out to pull the three year old into her arms.
Nina held him as best she could around her stomach that kept growing larger. She was five months along with their next child and it was now obvious she was pregnant. Nina made sure Jack was comfortable in her arms while she stroked his hair and kissed his hot forehead, trying to soothe him.
When he had relaxed, Nina laid him back in the bed next to Chris and pulled the blankets up to his chin, making sure he was tucked in before kissing his cheek. Once Jack was settled, the sweet woman came over to the opposite side of the bed and sat down next to Chris.
"Sweetheart, do you want any breakfast?" She asked, stroking his stubbled cheek.
"I think I need to wait on that, my stomach isn't doing so hot right now," Chris' half open eyes looked up at her.
Nina leaned down and kissed his lips ever so tenderly before she fluffed his pillows and tucked him in the exact same way she had just done with Jack. She went into full nurse mode, getting each of them medicine and making them take it before she opened the window to let some fresh air in and put on Jack's favorite movie. Sarge had trotted in by this point and was happy to find all his favorite humans together and Nina let him hop up on the bed by Jack which the dog was very thankful for.
She hated seeing her loves like this and she asked Chris, "What else can I get you, baby?"
Even though he felt terrible, he still managed a small smile and told her, "Just you."
Nina sweetly smiled as she tucked some of her short hair behind her ear and then climbed into bed and snuggled up to Chris' side while Jack was fast asleep curled up on his other side. It soothed him to feel his wife next to him and it always helped him relax no matter what.
"You know..." Nina trailed off, slipping her hand under Chris' soft tee shirt and rubbing her hand over his toned chest to try to comfort him. "I hate it when my boys are sick.... But I like getting to take care of you and Jack."
"Mhmm, I do like that part," He hummed softly.
"I know it's kind of silly, but it makes me feel... I don't know... needed I guess," She shrugged.
Chris put a finger under her chin and lifted it so he could look into her warm eyes. He sweetly smiled before he told her, "Trust me, you're always needed. Remember how sad this little house was without you?"
"I do remember helping you unpack your clothes into your closet which was when I found out you didn't own anything other than black or white tee shirts," She softly teased.
"See? And now I own some that are grey so there's an improvement," Chris smiled with his tired eyes closed. "And ever since we got married, the walls were more filled up and there's pillows on every couch or chair which I know Jack likes for when he makes pillow forts."
Nina giggled before adding on, "And there's a lot more in the kitchen pantry than just beer, doritos and stale bread."
"That's true," His chest rumbled with his soft laughter. "And now when I come home, I get to hear a little boy calling me dad and a beautiful woman calling my name telling me she's happy to see me and I swear, there is no sweeter sound in the entire world than that."
"Well there is no sweeter feeling than when you come home from work, wrap your arms around me and tell me that you love me before going to play with Jack," Nina replied to him before bringing her hand to rest on her pregnant stomach. "And soon, this little one is going to get to know the joy of having you as a father."
Chris just smiled before leaving a sloppy kiss on Nina's forehead. He closed his eyes while relaxing into the bed with Sarge at his feet and the loves of his life snuggled on either side of him. He wouldn't trade moments like this for the world, even if it meant he had to be sick.
