Jake shoved his hands in his pockets after he locked his car and hurried down the street to get to the little house. By sheer coincidence, Sarah was just getting out of her car in the driveway while carrying a bag of various items.
"Sarah, is Nina alright?" He asked while jogging across the grass, unable to hide his worry. "I woke up and saw I had a bunch of calls and texts from Chris and other guys at the station about what happened but I tried calling Chris and Nina and neither are answering."
"She's fine," Sarah's words made him let out a long breath of relief. "She was pretty upset but now hurt. Chris is with her inside, he wanted to calm her down so I went to the store and got her some advil and stuff since she was all tense and had a headache. It probably was for the best, I would have upset her more most likely by freaking out over it."
"Yeah I'm glad Chris went and got her from the station, he's so good in situations like that. Chris always somehow knows just what to do," Jake told her as he held the bag and Sarah unlocked the door.
When the pair walked into the house, they were met with a sight they were completely surprised by. Chris's hunky frame was laying on the couch on his back, while Nina laid on her side curled up to Chris and Sarge was laying at their feet. Her head was laying on his chest and Chris big arms were securely wrapped around her as she slept.
"What in the world is going on?" Sarah's eyes were wide.
"Nina's exhausted from everything today so she's taking a nap," Chris loudly whispered as not to wake her up.
"I think she's referring more to the fact that Nina's sleeping all snuggled up next to you," Jake snickered quietly, motioning to the position they were in.
"Oh we're together now," Chris stated matter-of-factly.
Sarah just stood there blinky in disbelief while Jake said, "Well it's about damn time!"
He then took out his phone and snapped a picture of the two on the couch with Sarge. Sarah still was just standing there until she finally took in the words Chris said and replied with, "Are you serious?"
With her shock and excitement, Sarah spoke loudly enough to cause Nina's eyes to flicker open. She let out a small yawn before a sweet smile appeared on her lips, realizing that she still was laying in Chris' warm arms. She felt so safe, comfortable and loved. Nina was afraid that when she woke up, everything would have just been a dream but her heart felt so full to know it was real.
"Sarah, what's your phone number?" Jake asked her while typing in his phone. "I'll send you that picture."
"Yes! I want it!" Sarah buzzed.
It was at that moment that Nina realized they weren't alone in the room. She rubbed her eyes while Chris let his hands gently run up and down her back before kissing the top of her head.
"I didn't realize you were back," Nina said to her sister through a yawn while she sat up up on the couch and Chris pushed himself up as well but kept an arm around her. Now that he had told her how he felt, he couldn't seem to be more than a few inches apart from her.
"I just got back as Jake was coming in and um, what the hell? Spill!" Her eyes were wide as she hurried over and sat on the edge of the couch by Sarge and Jake came to sit in an empty chair.
"Well," Nina's cheeks tinted pink while she looked over and stole a cute glance of Chris who was grinning at her, "I mean there's not a lot to spill, Chris told me he loves me and we kissed and then I fell asleep."
"What do you mean that's not a lot to spill!" Sarah's voice rose as she bounced up and down while grabbing Nina's shoulders and shaking her sister. "He said he loves you! That's huge!"
Neither Chris nor Nina said anything in response. They just smiled at each other before Chris kissed the top of her head and Nina hugged his middle. Jake was on his phone during that moment but then announced, "Alright Chris, I just sent that photo to a bunch of the guys down at the station so now they really have license to tease you."
"Thanks for that," Chris rolled his eyes.
"Nina, I forgot that I got this stuff for you at the store," Sarah handed her the bag. "But obviously you're a lot better now!"
Nina laughed softly before digging out the advil and swallowing them down with some water to try to ease her headache, "Thank you Sarah, I'm feeling a lot better thanks to Chris."
Sarah leaned against the couch cushion while Nina leaned against Chris' side and petted Sarge's head while her sister told her, "If I would have known that you were at kissing Officer Hottie, I would have brought you home some cute underwear instead!"
Her sister's teasing made her blush softly but the unexpected words Chris spoke next made her cheeks burn red when he spoke to Sarah, "I wouldn't have minded that."
Hearing those words leave his lips made everyone in the room whip their heads to look at him. Jake had been Chris partner for a few years now and he hadn't ever really heard Chris say anything like that and even now he couldn't hardly believe he said that.
Nina was burning red at the thought that came into her mind while Sarah just cracked up but then told Chris, "Sounds like it's a good thing I didn't considering my bedroom is right next to Nina's."
"Well I'm sure once you and Jake get together, you two will be making a bit of noise," Chris retorted, making each of them speechless which was quite the unusual sight and now it was Nina's turn to laugh.
Before anyone could say anything else, Sarge hopped off of the couch and went to sit by the door, letting his master know he needed to go outside so he could go to the bathroom. Since Chris was still all snuggled up with Nina, Jake pushed himself to his feet and offered to take the dog out and Sarah went out with him.
This left Chris and Nina together and since they only had kissed earlier and then Nina fell asleep, they hadn't really talked about any of it. Neither quite knew what they should say or if they really needed to say anything but eventually Nina did bring up something that had been floating around in her head.
"This morning when that officer came to take the report..." Nina started as Chris looked into her eyes, intently listening. "When I um told him my name, he said 'Oh yeah you're Evans girl' and it kind of surprised me."
Chris just chuckled before tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, "Everyone down at the station give me a hard time about you because I talk about you a lot.... Also Jake of course brings it up to everyone."
"Well..." She softly began, looking up at him from under her long eyelashes and slipped her hands into his big ones, "I kind of liked it when he called me your girl."
"I think you already know that I'm not interested in anybody but you, Nina. So what do you say, wanna be my girl? Because I want you to be," Chris' honest blue eyes looked right into her caramel ones.
"Nothing would make me happier," Her wide grin shone at him.
Chris smiled just as big before leaning in to kiss her sweetly and conveyed so much more to her than words ever could. When they parted, Nina pecked his lips a couple more times before he lifted her hands up to his mouth and kissed her knuckles before lifting his eyes to her and smiled, "I love you.... My Nina."
