The sun was just starting to set when Nina finally was pulling into the driveway to the house. A long yawn came out of her as she turned the car off and grabbed her keys. It seemed like nothing today had quite gone right. Normally Nina was never one to get flustered over little things but it had just been one headache after the next and when she spilled a bunch of coffee on her favorite cream colored sweater at work today, that was the last straw that finally had pushed her over the edge into a bad mood.
She tried to gather up all the groceries from the backseat, balancing them before locking the car. When Nina accidentally slammed her knee against the car door as she tried to close it, she quietly started grumbling to herself before she walked up the front pathway toward the door. As she balanced the groceries, trying to unlock the door, she happened to glance up above the door to see the sign that Chris had hung up last week.
'The Evans Family'
In that moment, every bit of crabbiness and frustration seemed to slip away and the weight she felt on her shoulders was lifted. Even though their wedding was six months ago, it still seemed surreal that she actually was married to him. Chris, her and their beloved dog Sarge were a family now and forever and that was enough to turn any bad day around.
She smiled softly as she finally got the door open and stepped inside, quickly being met with Sarge at her side and a familiar low voice calling out, "Is that the love of my life that I hear?"
Nina felt like his words just wrapped around her heart and filled it so warmly before she called back, "Yeah it's me, sweetheart. Sorry I'm so late. It kind of was just one thing after another and I dunno, it just seemed like everything took forever," She trailed off while plopping the bags down on the kitchen counter.
Soon the doorway was filled with the hunky frame of her husband. He leaned against the doorway, his thick arms crossed in front of his toned chest. Nina thought he looked so handsome, his navy blue pants of his police uniform still on and his white undershirt was neatly tucked in them. His shoes, uniform shirt, and gun belt was gone, telling her that he had been home for a little while.
She saw a sympathetic look on his stubbled handsome face as he asked, "Rough day, babe?"
"Oh it was okay, but it's good now that I'm home," She smiled before he wrapped her up in his thick arms, cradling her against his firm chest and hugged her tight and then leaned down to press a long sweet kiss to her lips.
"Well I sure am happy to see you, my love," Chris doted little kisses on her face.
"Mhmm, and I'm so happy to see you. All I could think of today was how much I missed you and wanted to be with you and see this handsome face," Nina was honest as she reached a hand up to cup his stubbled cheek.
She saw a twinkle in his eye as he said, "I have a little surprise for you..."
"A surprise?" Nina grinned while Chris tucked her short brown hair behind her ears. "Like what kind of a surprise?"
"Well... there's sort of two parts to it...." Chris trailed off as she saw his eyes darken and his tone lower while his fingertips worked underneath her coffee stained sweater and traced little circles on the small of her back. "But I want to know first if you feel up to the second part of the surprise..."
Nina knew exactly what his words meant and her body shivered in response. Her hands clutched his thick biceps and her breathing hitched before she swallowed harshly and told him, "I need that so much, Chris."
"Mhmmm," He smirked before pressing a few lingering kisses to her neck. "That's what I like to hear."
"Can we go upstairs now?" She asked him, feeling so needy for her husband.
