The Ticket

The sound of police sirens screamed as Nina's rear view mirror lit up with flashing blue and red lights. She groaned in response, already knowing her offense when she pulled the SUV to the side of the road. She had been in a hurry today, picking Sophie up from school and then had just picked Logan and Ryan up but now was racing to get Logan to soccer practice, then Ryan to guitar lessons and lastly she could drop Sophie off at dance lessons. Luckily now that Jack was driving, he could take himself to baseball practice but still texted him and reminded him to make sure he got Jane home early enough for dinner since he was taking his girlfriend to practice with him.

She felt like her brain was racing and hearing the kids sing along the radio was adorable, but wasn't helping her be able to think straight. Nina already was late and she knew she had been speeding but now getting pulled over was only going to make her even more late.

"Mooom, there's a police car behind you," Ryan stated the obvious as she pulled the car off to the side of the road and stopped.

"Yeah, I know," Nina rubbed her forehead in frustration.

A long sigh escaped her lips before she rolled her window down and waited for the officer to come to her window. Nina slumped in her seat, ready for the ticket but a giant smile broke out on her lips when she saw the familiar stubbled face leaning in her window.

"Chris," She laughed after he leaned inside the car to kiss her sweetly. "I didn't know that was you pulling me over."

"I didn't realize it was our car until you were already on the side of the road. Then when I was walking up, I heard all the munchkins in the back," He joked while reaching behind Nina's seat to tickle Sophie's leg, making her squeal.

"Dad, are you gonna arrest Mom?" Logan piped up from the passenger seat.

Ryan unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned up into the front so he could see his father better and asked, "Are you going to cuff her?"

Chris tipped his hunky frame back and belted out his loud laughter before leaning back against the open window and told them, "No I'm not arresting Mom, and I'm not going to handcuff her." A smirk danced on his lips before he came in closer to whisper in Nina's ear, "Well... at least not until later tonight."

A bright red blush burned in her cheeks as she bit at her plump bottom lip. Her sparkling brown eyes looked up at him and Chris let out an involuntary grunt from how attractive she looked and he had to contain himself from opening the door, pulling her up against him tight and kiss her senseless.

"Babe, I love seeing you but I actually really need to go to take the kids to all their things," She spoke up, bringing him back to reality.

"Oh yeah, of course," He smiled while leaning in to kiss her once more. "I'll write the ticket really quick then you can head out."

Nina wrinkled her eyebrows up in confusion as she asked, "Wait, you're seriously going to write me a ticket?"

He looked at her like she was crazy before he responded, "Well yeah... you broke the law."
