A soft smile was across Chris' face as he laid on the couch on the quiet Friday evening. Sophie was particularly excited to go to a high school basketball game that she was going to meet up with another boy in her class to sit with. Logan and Ryan were already going to attend the game, and since Jack was home from college for the weekend, he decided to tag along.

This left Chris and Nina home alone to soak in a nice relaxing evening. Chris laid on his back with Nina snuggled up to him, her head on his chest and a slender hand slipped underneath his shirt and rubbed along the soft hair on his stomach. His thick arms were holding her tight and he would occasionally lean down and press a kiss on top of her short hair as they watched a movie on a tv.

He loved getting time to just snuggle and spend time with his precious wife but it got cut short when they saw Sarge's head lift up from where he was laying on the carpet, signifying he heard something and sure enough, a moment later the front door opened.

Jack came inside with an arm around his younger sister who had tears streaming down her face. Logan and Ryan came in behind them and closed the door as everyone made their way into the living room. Instantly Nina was on her feet and pulled Sophie into her arms, stroking her hair and asked, "What's wrong, sweetie?"

All the sensitive girl did was cry and Chris looked at the boys as he sat up on the couch and asked, "What happened?"

"Jacob happened," Logan huffed, hating to even say his name.

"That little punk who was supposed to come be with Sophie came in with another girl and ignored Sophie," Jack explained to his parents.

Chris's protective side made anger flare inside him. His jaw clenched and he tried to take deep breaths while he walked over to where Nina was still holding Sophie in her arms and he rubbed a hand on his crying daughter's back while he asked his boys, "Did he say anything?"

"I stayed with Sophie while Logan and Jack talked to him," Ryan smirked while nudging his brothers.

"We told him if he ever gets near Sophie again, we'll give him a black eye," Logan revealed, causing his father to smile to himself.

When Chris' eyes turned back to look at his wife and daughter, he couldn't help but feel his heart break a little. He knew this was all part of life, and it wouldn't be the last time Sophie would be hurt by a boy, but he hated it and he hated even more to hear his precious daughter cry.

"Peanut," His voice was gentle, calling her his little nickname for her. "Can I get in on this hug?"

Nina looked up at her husband, smiling when she felt Sophie let go of her and turned, letting her father wrap his thick arms around her and pull her against his chest. Sophie buried her face in his chest and let out her tears while Chris rubbed her back.

"Hey, remember what I used to say when you were little?" He asked.

"That I was always safe in your arms," Sophie sniffled against him.

Chris kissed the top of her head, smiling and assuring her, "That's right."

Sophie finally lifted her head and used the sleeve of her shirt to wipe at the tears on her sweet face that so mirrored her mother's. She softly smiled up at him, and told her loving father, "I do always feel safe with you dad."

He kissed her forehead, his beard that now had spricks of grey in it tickled her, making her giggle before he let go of her and let Nina dote on her. The sweet mother hugged her tight and said, "How about we order a big pizza and we can all just hang out and watch a movie."

"That sounds nice, Mama," Sophie beamed while Nina kissed her cheek.

The family ended up sprawling out around the living room after the pizza was ordered. Ryan was getting the movie ready and Nina tucked Sophie in next to her father with a soft blanket before she came to sit on the other side of Chris.

As the opening credits were starting to play, Sophie looked over at where Jack was sitting in an oversized chair before her eyes flickered over to the two younger brothers on the smaller couch. She smiled and wiped at the corners of her watery eyes before speaking up and saying to them, "Thank you guys for standing up for me and taking care of me tonight."

"You don't have to thank us, Soph," Ryan assured her. "We're your brothers, that's what we're here for."

"Yeah, what else are we good for?" Logan joked, making the family crack up.

Jack, ever the protector just like his father, got up and knelt in front of the couch and put a hand on his little sister's shoulder, "It's just like Dad always says... we're the Evans and we stick together no matter what."

The parents looked at each other, sharing a look, both feeling so proud of their children before Nina reached across Chris' lap and held Sophie's hand, "Boys will come and go honey, but you'll always have your family right here for you."

Sophie just beamed.

"I know."
