As Chris sat at the beautifully set table, eating his dinner, he turned his head and felt his heart beat quickly become rapid as it pounded inside of his chest. He looked at Nina sitting next to him, laughing at someone Sarah had said to her and he swore that there was nothing more beautiful than she was in that moment.
He looked at her short hair, pinned up in the back with a thin white veil hanging over it. Her soft skin was covered in her white dress that Chris thought made her look like an angel in real life. The top of her dress was something that Nina called a sweetheart neckline... he didn't know exactly what that meant but whatever it was, he thought it was perfect for her since she was the biggest sweetheart in the world in his opinion. The dress then had a lace overlay that came up to her neck and down her arms for sleeves. It suited her perfectly and only made her look even sweeter than she was.
It wouldn't have mattered if she wore a paper bag though, Chris would have thought that she looked like the most beautiful girl in the world. He just sat at the table, gazing at her while her warm eyes crinkled in laughter and her pink lips parted to let out her cute giggle. Chris' thumb rubbed over the metal band on his fourth finger on his left hand, still getting used to the feeling of it.
Nina turned her head and was surprised when she caught Chris staring at her. She tilted her head and said, "You look like you're thinking."
"I am," His sideways smile appeared. "I'm thinking that I can't believe you're my wife. My wife. Like I get to come home to you and wake up next to you every day for the rest of my life."
"Chris," Her eyes grew glossy as she cooed, reaching over to cup his stubbled cheek. "Don't make my cry again! I've already cried four or five times today."
He chuckled softly before leaning in and kissing her forehead softly, "As long as I'm making you cry from happiness."
Nina just smiled widely before leaning in to press her lips to his lovingly. Chris brought his hand up to cup her cheek as he kissed her right back until a napkin hit his face before Jake's teasing voice followed,"Guys, stop with the PDA! There are children here!"
"Um it's our wedding, I think we're allowed to," Chris balled up the napkin and threw it right back at him.
"Okay so I'm taking out the 'consideration for others' line in your best man's speech," Jake pretended to cross a line off of the paper.
"Jake stop being a brat and just get up there and do your toast," Sarah leaned over and slapped her boyfriend.
The group all kept joking before Jake stood up, smoothing out his suit and walking over to stand by the microphone that was near the head table. Sarge trotted over and sat by Jake's feet and Nina couldn't help but 'awww' at how adorable the obedient dog was with his little bow tie that she had gotten him for the occasion. Her eyes then traveled up to Jake who had cleared his throat into the microphone.
"Please tell me he's not going to start this speech with one of his terrible jokes," Nina couldn't help but lean over and whisper into her husband's ear.
"I don't think we're ever going to escape those jokes... I think we have to resign ourselves to our fate," He chuckled, making Nina laugh.
"Alright, if I can have everyone's attention," Jake started talking into the microphone, getting everyone's attention as he began. "So I'm Jake, the best man, and for those of you who don't know, Chris and I are partners and have been ever since we graduated the academy so I've been with that guy for quite a while."
"Unfortunately," Chris couldn't help but joke.
Jake just gave him a playful look and told him, "Don't be making cracks like that Evans, I have a lot of power right now with this microphone. Now, I could tell you all some embarrassing stories about Chris.... Like the time that an old lady didn't realize Chris was a police officer and thought he was stealing and knocked him out with her purse. Or the time that he accidentally drove a cop car into a lake."
