The sound of children laughing echoed in the small park as they all played on the jungle gym. The moms all sat at a nearby table, watching the kids while they all caught up since their last Friday play date for the kids. Nina waved at them as she walked up, a few minutes late after dropping Jack and Logan off at school. She helped Ryan off with his coat so he could go over and play with the other kids while she came to sit down with her friends and smiled at them all.
"How are you feeling, Nina?" One of them asked. "We missed you last week."
"I missed you guys too. I would have much rather been here than throwing up at home," She said while resting a hand on the bump of her stomach that was starting to show. "I'm doing a little bit better though, I think the morning sickness is starting to die down."
"Good, I'm glad you're feeling better," Another woman smiled at her before Nina saw her move to look at something off in the distance and she asked, "Hey Nina... isn't that your husband?"
She turned her head and saw an officer walking toward her, looking so handsome in his uniform. Nina would recognized that scruff and smile anywhere. Sarge came running over to her, laying his head in her lap and earned some scratches behind his ear. Soon though, Chris came along behind and snapped his fingers, "Sarge, down boy."
The well trained down did as he was told and moved away from Nina, sitting down until he spotted Ryan over on the jungle gym and hurried over to greet the little boy. Meanwhile, Chris came over to the table of women, smiling at them all and saying, "Hi ladies."
"Chris, what are you doing here?" Nina wondered as he rested a hand on her shoulder.
"Oh Jake and I were on a call, arresting a drunk and disorderly across the street but I saw what time it was and thought you'd be here so while Jake is processing some of the forms, I figured I'd come say hi," His blue eyes crinkled up in a smile before looking around at the other ladies, "Mind if I steal her for a minute?"
Nina got up from the table and Chris put a hand on the small of her back as he led her over underneath a nearby tree, allowing them a little bit of privacy. Chris turned to her, resting his hands loosely on her hips while he asked her, "How are you feeling today, sweetheart?"
"I actually feel pretty good today," She told him, wrapping her arms around his waist above his gun belt.
"Good," He smiled while leaning down to kiss her lips sweetly. "I hate seeing you sick and I hate not being able to do anything."
"Chris, you've done so much. But I'm okay, I really am, I promise," Nina tried to assure her sweet husband.
All he did was hug her tight before pressing a few little kisses on her face before saying, "I need to get back, but I just had to come get a kiss from my girl first."
She beamed up at him, her heart feeling full from his words, "I'm so glad you did."
"I love you so much my precious Nina," He whispered in her ear, stealing one last kiss. "I'm going to go say hi to Ryan before I go."
Nina nodded and kissed his cheek before she went back over to sit with the other moms as Chris went over to the play structure and scooped up Ryan when he came running. Nina was completely engrossed in watching them that she didn't notice that all the other moms were too.
"Okay Nina, I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable in any way, and I'm happily married and all, but just objectively saying... that Chris of yours is pretty easy on the eyes," The jokester of the group said, making everyone laugh.
"Yeah, it's really no wonder you and Chris have so many kids," Another one piped in. "I wouldn't be able to keep my hands off him either.
Nina felt her cheeks burning red feeling so much embarrassment which only got worse when Chris looked over at her, giving her a little wink and unknowingly fueling the fire and making all Nina's friends laugh. Luckily, she was able to change the subject amongst the group and it wasn't until later that night once all the kids were tucked into bed and were asleep that it crossed Nina's mind again.
"What is it, babe?" Chris asked from where he was laying in bed, flipping channels on tv as Nina changed into her pajamas.
"What?" She tilted her head and asked, finishing pulling her tee shirt on before coming over to fluff up her pillows.
He just smirked while keeping his eyes on the tv, saying, "I can tell when you're thinking something."
"It's nothing, just a conversation I had this morning," Nina simply explained while climbing into bed next to him. The moment that he turned his head and she looked into those blue eyes of his though, she was toast and found herself admitting, "The other mom's were just making comments about how attractive you are."
"And?"
"And I didn't like it," Nina huffed with a small smile on her lips, laughing gently as he wrapped his thick arms around her. "You are obviously very attractive but you're my husband and I don't like them looking at you the way they did. I know they were just kidding around and didn't mean anything by it but... I still didn't like it."
"Aw baby," Chris chuckled, pulling her closer and kissing her cheek. "You're so fucking adorable... especially when you get a little jealous over me. But don't worry, I don't care what any of them think... I only care what you think."
Nina wrapped her arms around Chris' bare waist, snuggling up to him and kissing at his stubbled jaw while she sweetly replied, "We both know that you already know what I think."
"I think you should just show me instead," A smirk was evident on his face.
"Sounds like a plan to me, Officer Evans."
