The sound of the door slamming echoed through the small home, startling Nina when she heard it. She was sitting on the couch, reading a book when she saw Sarge come trotting in, getting a pat on the head from her before going to the kitchen to have a snack.
Nina kept her eyes looking up, waiting for her husband to come into the room. It was only a moment until he appeared and instantly Nina could tell something was wrong. Every day when he came home from work, he'd usually get tackled by all the kids and love on them before he came to find Nina and he'd give her a big hug and kiss and tell her how much he loved her. Today was different though.
He quickly stomped by the living room and when right for the stairs, heading up to their bedroom. Nina was so confused by his behavior so she put her book down and went up to follow him. When her soft footsteps reached the bedroom, she found him angrily kicking his shoes off before tossing his gun belt onto the nearby chair and and quickly yanked off his uniform shirt. When he turned around, Chris was left in just his tight white tee shirt that showed off his broad chest and it was tucked into his navy blue uniform pants. His eyebrows were wrinkled together and his strong jawline was clenching angrily.
"Chris, are you alright?" She softly asked her husband.
"Fine," He grunted, pushing past her and going back down the stairs.
Nina hadn't hardly ever seen him this way so she followed him into the kitchen where he was popping open a beer while she asked, "What's going on?"
He didn't say anything in response, he just drank his beer and crossed his arms across his chest, staring out the window of the kitchen. Nina crossed through the small kitchen and rested a hand on his strong shoulder but he shrugged it off and took a few steps away.
"Chris, why won't you tell me what's wrong?" Nina was extremely concerned at this point.
"I'm fucking fine, just leave me alone!" Chris harshly scolded her in a tone she hadn't ever heard him use with anyone, let alone with her.
Chris was always so gentle and sensitive with everyone, but especially with his precious Nina. More than anything, he wanted to protect her and her feelings so to have him be so opposite was extremely unusual and hurtful. Instantly Nina assumed she must have done something she was unaware of that hurt him and she burst into tears.
In that split second, Chris' angry demeanor melted. The moment that he saw his sweet Nina with tears rolling down her cheeks, he was a goner. He raced across the kitchen and pulled her against his big firm chest, holding her tight while he stroked her short brown hair.
"Nina, oh Nina I'm so sorry," He profusely apologized, pressing kisses on top of her head while she cried in his chest. "God, I'm such an idiot. I'm so sorry, I was just angry about something at work and I shouldn't have taken it out on you. I was just so angry, I'm sorry Nina. I'm so sorry, please forgive me."
She sniffled while gently lifting her face so that her glossy eyes could look into his beautiful sorrowful blue ones, "S-So you're n-not mad at m-m-me?"
"Mad at you? Of course I'm not sweetheart," His eyebrows arched while he put his big hands on either side of her face. His tone was now back to it's normal gentle and loving sound which calmed her as he went on, "I could never be that angry at my sweet wife. I'm mad about something at work and I'm an idiot and took it out on you and I'm so sorry, please forgive me?"
