"I can't promise you that"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the first battle came to a close and Voldemort called back his forces to see if Harry would sacrifice himself for the lives of others, Harry used the tear from Snape to discover what his fate was since the beginning.
A part of him always knew that this was how it was going to end and since he started hunted the horcruxes that suspicion grew even more. Harry knew what he had to do but first he had to see the people who cared most about him.
Walking back from Dumbledore's office he sees Hermione and Ron waiting for him on the steps. Harry took a moment to look at them, although they have both grow and matured so much over the seven years they knew each other, they were still the same people he had met on his first train ride here and they hadn't changed a bit. Hermione would always be the bushy haired know it all and Ron would always be the boy who tried to turn his rat yellow and had dirt on his nose.
When he finally made his presence know to them they look at him with sadness and pity in their eyes. Harry knew they knew what he was about to say, and that only broke his heart more. He didn't want to leave them behind, he didn't want to leave anyone behind. Especially him.
Explaining the situation to them, they both tackle him to a hug. Tears were shed by each of the trio as they offered to go with Harry. He declined, but made them promise to look after everyone and to defeat Voldemort for him. He also handed over a note that he asked they give to him once this was all over.
He soon left in search of the love of his life. Draco. They had been together since fourth year when Draco had kissed him in an empty corridor after the first task saying that he had scared him because he thought he would never get the chance to tell him how he truly felt.
Harry walked down the familiar corridors until he was outside the entrance. Standing there looking out at the damage and destruction was the blonde haired beauty that never failed to take his breath away. Harry walked up behind him and wrapped his arms around Draco's waist tightly. They remained silent, not wanting to disturb the little bit of peace that they hadn't had in so long and may never have again.
They both knew what was coming but it only made it more real when Harry said "I going to meet him Draco." Draco could only nod as he didn't trust his voice, tears brimmed in his eyes but he refused to let them fall.
Leaving Harry's arms, Draco spun around and kissed him firmly on the lip. The kiss was desperate and demanding, the tow poured every ounce of love, heart break and sorrow into the kiss and they willed it to never end. As Draco and Harry puled away for air Draco whispered "Promise me you'll come back. Promise you'll come back safe and alive."
Harry couldn't look Draco in the eye as he said "I can't promise you that". As much as Harry loved Draco, he just could tell him what was about happen. It was selfish not telling him, but Harry could stand seeing the love of his life break in front of him as he found out his fate.
Harry heard Hermione and Ron walk up behind him as he puled away from Draco. The hurt and confusion was clear as he started to think about what Harry could mean. But as Harry started to walk away towards the forest where his Death was waiting for him, the chilling thought of reality hit Draco.
Hermione and Ron held Draco back from running towards Harry and stopping him. Draco started to scream and beg for them to let go, for Harry to not do what he was doing and to come back, for them to tell them that he was wrong and that Harry would come back alive. But as Draco continued to watch Harry walk away the feeling of dread settled in his stomach.
And as much as it pained him to leave Draco behind, Harry kept walking forward, not daring to look back. Before he walked into the forest Harry whispered "I'm sorry Draco, I love you..."
