Waiting for Geoff seemed to drag on forever. Awsten lay sprawled out on the older boy's messy bed sheets while he listened to the gentle pattering of the shower coming from the bathroom. He wanted his fucking cuddles.
It was draining to try to keep his thoughts rationalised, or at least somewhat dependent on perspective. No matter how much relief he was experiencing right now, the same relief that he felt the night that he'd climbed through his window with Geoff, it would end eventually. It was inevitable, this solution was only temporary. He was pretty sure this was going to be the last solution.
He was already exhausted, though, from his emotional release from earlier. Panicking was awfully good at consuming energy, and especially since he didn't eat and barely slept, energy was very precious and needed to be reserved.
He snapped out of his thinking process as the room fell silent, dead from any noise of water hitting tiles from across the hallway as the water flow ceased. His heart rate sped up. The entire room smelled like Geoff, the strawberry candle wax that detailed the edges of the bedroom. The only thing that was missing was the boy himself, his body warmth, his soft lips that pressed against Awsten's skin, proving to him that he was being looked after, that he would be okay.
And maybe he wouldn't, but he was starting to accept that possibility. The very likely possibility. Right now he just needed the reassurance that at least someone was looking out for him, and he was extremely lucky to be on the receiving end of that. He felt like he would be okay, even if he wasn't.
The bedroom door clicked open, and Geoff stepped inside with a white towel loosely draped across his hips, his lips curling at the edges into a smile when he heard Awsten huff with impatience, sprawled out on the bed.
"Hey, sweetheart."
"I've been waiting for fucking ever, Geoff." Awsten flung his head back on the pillow dramatically to make a point, he wanted cuddles, and he wasn't prepared to wait any longer. The water that was tangled into the strands of his hair started to soak out into the pillowcase that he was laying on, but he didn't care about that.
"Awh. But it's only been seven minutes since you last saw me," Geoff teased, smiling to himself as he opened up the drawers on his dresser to find some clothes for him to wear, he could basically feel Awsten staring at his naked back.
"Asshole."
"Ouch," Geoff responded quietly, dropping his towel to put on the clean clothes, laughing when he heard Awsten stutter. "It's not as if you haven't seen me before, sweetheart. Keep it in your pants for one night, alright?"
The younger boy rolled his eyes, sighing. "I stand by my previous statement."
"That I'm an asshole?"
"You aren't proving me wrong," Awsten smirked, sitting up on his elbows and watching geoff get dressed. It wasn't as weird as it sounded, in his opinion; he just liked the view. His boyfriend was fucking hot and, since they were boyfriends, he had the right to admire his body- if Geoff was okay with it, of course. Only he was allowed to see Geoff's body, though. That felt good to think about.
"I'm not?" Geoff asked, pulling a pale T-shirt over his head, running a hand through his hair to put it out of his face, just causing the damp strands to stick out all over the place. "I thought that you were waiting on cuddles from me, though?"
"I am," Awsten replied, frowning. "And I've been waiting a long ass time, so you better give me them."
"Only if you apologise," Geoff responded easily, crossing his arms over his chest. "I'm being serious, Aws. Apologise or you don't get cuddles."
"Bullshit," Awsten whined, reaching his arm out lazily to Geoff. "I'm so cute. You want to cuddle me. I'm fucking adorable and the best hugger. You can't resist."
Geoff just shrugged. "I mean, you're right, you are fucking adorable," Geoff smirked at the look of satisfaction that Awsten had, and watching it quickly dissipate. "But I should probably go upstairs and spend time with my mum, and my sister and step-dad will be home soon. Haven't seen them in a couple of days, you know?"
"Wait, I'm sorry," Awsten panicked as Geoff walked towards the door, his voice spiking in pitch as he quickly sat up on the bed from where he was laying. "Don't leave me! I want cuddles so bad, Geoff. I'm sorry. Please don't leave. I'm sorry."
"Aws, I'm only joking, lovely," Geoff smiled softly, sitting on the edge of the bed and brushed some of Awsten's blonde hair away from his forehead to give him room to lean down and press a gentle kiss to it. "Although I'm glad you listened to me and apologised, I think you deserve some cuddles now, don't you think?"
The smaller boy hummed in agreement, barely giving Geoff the chance to lay down on the bed next to him before he was running his hand up his shirt and across his warm stomach, his head rested against his chest that was covered by the thin fabric, listening to the recurring rhythm of Geoff's heartbeat. The sound that Awsten had memorised.
His eyes fell shut as he immersed himself in being held. He was going to be okay. He was safe. He was okay.
