Ch.19 Wake Me Up When September Ends/Father's Day

The next morning Anna woke up and decided she wanted to play Frankie so she headed down to the studio quietly so she wouldn't wake anyone up and when she started going down the stairs she heard faint crying so she crouched down and looked through the railing on the stairs and she saw Billie with his back to her holding Blue,crying so she quietly headed out of the studio and went into Billie and Adrienne's room and quietly whispered
"Adrienne,wake up" and she did
"Huh, Anna what's wrong" she said sitting up
"I think something's wrong with Billie, I was gonna go play Frankie in to studio but when I headed down there I saw Billie crying holding Blue"then Adrienne spoke
"Oh shit I forgot its Father's Day,here sit down I'll explain"so Anna did then Adrienne spoke
"Y'know how Billie's dad died when he was little"
"Yeah"
"Well on Father's Day he gets emotional and stuff,sorry we forgot to tell you and thats the reason Mike and Tre spent the night,to make sure Billie is okay"
"Its fine I get it,can I try and cheer him up"
"That would awesome if you tried"Adrienne said giving Anna a hug
"Okay"then Anna headed back to her room and grabbed all of the photos they took since she's been there and headed down to the studio,thank god her dad passed out on the couch in her room and she walked back into the studio and went by Billie,who was still crying and gave him a hug then spoke
"Its okay,Adrienne explained and no one wants to see you sad because we all love you"then Billie wipped his eyes and spoke
"I-I know and I-I know t-that you guys a-all love me,but I-I just miss my dad a lot" Billie then began crying again so Anna hugged him again then took out all of the photos then spoke
"All the pictures we've taken since I've been here and in every single one I'm the happiest kid in the world,because you make me happy and so I'm gonna make you happy"she said smiling then Billie smiled
"See theres a smile,thats what I want to see,can I tell you something"Anna asked sitting across from Billie
"Sure"he said wiping his eyes
"Well in 5th grade my friend Nathanial so we were both 10 his mom died of cancer and I swear he kept himself together so well but I also knew he was sad so I swear I did everything to make that kid feel better and my life was complete hell at the time and he was the only thing keeping me going and I'm still his friend,hell he's the only one that will talk to me at school and one day I realised that you to have something in common and I started crying in class and my heart broke so I always made sure he was happy or give him a hug because he's like a brother to me and I never want to see him cry because I care about him too much and I never want to see you cry because I care about you too much and I love you" and Billie immediately pulled Anna into a hug and was crying again and spoke
"God how can you be so sweet and kind you always make me happy" then they both looked through the pictures and laughed and smiled and Anna was happy that she cheered Billie up and Billie hugged her again and spoke
"You always cheer me up and put a smile on my face and I'm so glad I have you because you're one of the best people ever"
"Good" Anna said with a smile on her face
"Hey how about we have a kick ass day in your dad's honor,does that sound good"then Billie perked up and spoke
'That sounds amazing but what would we do"then Anna got an idea and a smirk appeared on her face
"Do you still have contacts at Gilman"
"Yeah, why"
"Maybe we all could play a show at Gilman in your dad's honor,like some of his favorite songs and stuff and no matter what songs we would play I know your dad is proud as fuck of you and how far you've come and how strong you are because I sure as hell am"
"Thats an awesome idea and thank you"
"Of course,so the tables have turned"
"Okay I'm gonna call my contacts at Gilman then go talk to the guys and could you go ask your dad to see if he's in"
"Sure"so Billie got up and went into his guitar room and called his contacts at Gilman who said he totally could and then headed back by Anna,smiling he spoke
"They said we could totally do it" then hugged Anna
"Yayy,I'm gonna go ask my dad"so she darted upstairs to her room where her dad was sitting on the couch on his phone
"Hey dad got a sec'
"Yeah"and Anna sat down on her bed
"Well um if Billie seemd a bit of its because its Father's Day and y'know Nathanial's mom died when he was 10'
"Well same with Billie except it was his dad and I cheered him up and came up with the idea for all of us to play a show at Gilman in his dad's honor also Happy Father's Day"
"Oh kiddo thats so sweet and thank you"
"Yeah, well are you in"
"Totally" and Anna practically jumped on her dad,hugging him
"Thank you so much this will mean everything to Billie"so she dashed back down stairs where Billie was sitting in the studio
"My dad said he's in,did you talk to the guys yet"
"No I was waiting for what your dad would say"
"Okay lets go"so they headed up to the living room where Mike and Tre were sitting talking
'Hey guys go a minute me and Anna gotta talk you 'bout something"
"Sure"
"Well y'know what today is and you guys have no idea how well Anna cheered me up and she even came up with the idea to play a show at Gilman in my dad's honor and I already called and said they would totally lets us and Anna's dad is in to and so is Anna so what do ya say"
"Of course Billie we would totally do that"
"Great"
"So what time"
"Like 7:30"
"Cool"so then Anna went and got her dad and everyone headed down to the studio and practiced every song that Billie wanted to play 50x's over and once everyone cooled down for a couple hours it was time go leave so they had time to set up,so they left and when they got there they set up and people started filing in and Anna every few minutes looked over at Billie to make sure he was okay and she could tell that he was a mixture of emotions,that he was happy about the show and Anna cheering him up, but also sad because he misses his dad and she gave him a hug a few times and by now 7:30 rolled around and once most people who were coming were there they started and Billie stood in front of the microphone and spoke
"How you all doing" and all they got in response was massive cheers and Anna could tell that Billie cheered up at this point
"Well you might see some unframiliar faces up here with us well along with Tre on drums is Mr.Scott Kushner,about three weeks ago he was in a car accident and was in a coma but he's back and ready to play like hell" and the crowd just cheered back
"And this kick ass kid next to me is Miss Anna Kushner and she is Scott's kid and one of the coolest fucking people ever,hell this show was her idea and you are in for a surprise for sure" and Anna took a bow,holding Frankie in her hand then Billie spoke
"These next kick ass songs are by Anna,okay lets go crazy" and the crowd went nuts as the jumped into Consious Perception,then Step Off,then St. Insomnia,Look Back,then they played Jesus of Suberbia,then Longview,a cover of Blitzkreg Bop,a cover of Knowledge,a cover of I Love Rock and Roll,then King for a Day,then they started to slow down a bit and Billie spoke
"These next songs are also by Anna" then they played The World Starts(2/3/06),then Barrbed Wire Heart and while playing Anna looked at Adrienne in the crowd and grabbed her necklace for a few seconds and smiled,then Frankie,then Scars,then they jumped right into Wake Me Up When September Ends and Billie had Anna sing with him and Anna swears she could feel it become just pure peace and raw emotion and not even half way through the song Billie started getting choked up and Anna put a hand on his shoulder and just sang with him and she even got a bit choked up but made it through and it was there second last song so after they were done Billie turned around and wiped his eyes and cleared his throat and Anna gave him a quick hug then he spoke
"This next song is probaly one of the most purest songs filled with raw emotion you will ever hear" then Anna put Joey around her neck and Billie grabbed his aucostic and they played Thank You and by the time they were done playing Anna looked up and the crowd was ether in shock or in tears and she looked at Adrienne who was in tears smiling holding her own necklace then Anna grabbed her mic and spoke
"Give it up for Mr.Billie Joe Armstrong, Mr.Mike Dirnt, Mr.Tre Cool, and last but not least,my dad, Mr. Scott Kushner,thank you and goodnight" and the crowd just cheered like hell,then they packed up and left before anyone could catch them leaving,but that failed and Anna and Scott ended up signing like a million fucking things and like barely anyone to no one came up to Billie,Mike,or Tre so they were just standing there laughing and eventually they left and headed home and Billie came over to Anna and gave her a hug and spoke
"I am so proud of you, you just played you're very first show and it was fucking awesome,it was an amazing idea" then he just kept hugging her, then eventually pulled away and spoke
"Do you wanna go on a walk"
"Of course,that is like one of my favorite things to do"
"Okay"so Billie told Adrienne that him and Anna were gonna go on a walk and left,then like 10 minutes into their walk, Billie gave Anna a hug and started crying again and spoke
"I-I am so proud of you,you just played y-your first show like nothing" and Billie just kept hugging her and eventually pulled away and he wiped his eyes and he just walked around with Anna holding her hand,sniffiling every few minutes and Anna noticed and spoke
"I have and idea,how about ice cream, ice cream makes everything better" and Billie just nodded his head and spoke
"Okay"so Billie pulled out his phone and texted Adrienne and they continued walking around and eventually arrived at Baskin Robbins and Anna got chocolate fudge ice cream and Billie got mint chip ice cream,they payed and left then Billie spoke
"You were right ice cream does make everything better"Billie said smiling
"Of course I'm right" then Billie tapped Anna's nose with his ice cream,then Anna did the same to Billie then they headed up to the point that looks over the city and sat up there and ate there ice cream and joked,laughed,and talked and Billie spoke
"Y'know how you were talking about your friend"
"Yeah"
"Well the best thing to do is to stay his friend because I met Mike around that time and I wouldn't have surrvived without him,so stick with your buddy okay"
"Okay"then Billie spoke
"So me and the guys were going over tour dates and we figured our first show would be in Milwaukee and you and your dad could play then you guys could just come on tour with us,does that sound good and it will start next wniter break for you because you still have school but after school we can all Facetime and jam how does sound"
"That sounds awesome,wanna know something that will make you jealous"Anna said with a smirk on her face
"What" Billie said smiling looking interested
"In July I get to see Joan Jett in Wisconsin and I might get to go back stage and meet her"then Billie just had pure excitment and shock on his face then spoke
"Well me and Adrienne are gonna visit you twice a month I guess I'll have to come up there for that and meet her with you"
"Oh my god really"
"Of course"and Anna tackled Billie with a hug
"Also one of the bands I named off I Don't Know How But They Found Me is coming to Rave and I'm seeing them to,Joan Jett and that band in the course of two weeks"
"I'll come to that one to"Billie said with a smile on his face
"Yayy" and Anna got up and started dancing,putting a smile on Billie's face and make him laugh,then Anna fell over and was laying on her back and looked up at the sky
"Wow"
"What"
"The stars, lay down"so Billie did and he was surprised
"Wow"and they laid there for what felt like hours and just gazed at the stars and talked,then Billie looked at the time on his phone and spoke
"Holy shit it midnight"
"Oh crap we should probaly head back"
"Yeah" so they headed back home,and when they walked in the door the house was dark and when Billie turned on the lights Scott,Adrienne,Mike,and Tre all popped out of different places and all screamed
"HAPPY FIRST SHOW" and Anna looked up at Billie and spoke
"This was your idea"
"I like honestly knew nothing about this"he said holding up his hands in defense,then Adrienne brought a plate of a variety of cupcakes on it,some had drums and drum sticks on it,some had Frankie on them,some had Joey on them,some had microphones on them,and others had the Gilman logo on them and others had a brabbed wire heart on them and there were three of each,so they all sat down and Adrienne hooked up the VHS and put in the tape of Anna playing with the guys that she recorded for her dad when he woke up and watched it while enjoying there kick ass cupcakes and by the end of it Billie spoke
"That was the first time Anna jammed with us and I had Adrienne record it so you could see it when you woke up"
"Well I'm glad you did and plus tonight made me so fucking proud,all in agreement say 'I' " and literally everyone except for Anna said 'I' she just sat there hiding her blush of embarassment,thank god no one was filming this time an they all literally gave her a group hug and told her how proud they were of her then she spoke
"Well I'm proud of my dad because he did pretty kick ass for playing with a band he never played with before,all in agreement say 'I' " and everyone said 'I' except for Scott how just sat there smiling and by this point they checked the time
"Holy crap it 1 am"
"Yeah we should head to bed" so Mike and Tre called their wives and told them they were spending the night at Billie's again and everyone said their goodnights,but Anna and Billie headed to the backyard and sat down and Billie spoke
"Thank you for cheering me up,making sure I smiled,coming up with that awesome idea,having a kick ass first show and making sure I was okay and going on a walk with me and making me feel better"Billie said smiling
"Of course Billie I love you and you are family and plus it hurts me to see you hurt and I had a really kick ass time" and Billie gave Anna a hug then spoke
'Night Anna,love you,Billie hug"so Billie gave her a hug again
"Night Billie,love you to" and they headed back inside and went there separate ways to bed,lets see if tomorrow is as kick ass and fun as today was.
