I left my house running. It was raining heavily, and the traffic was insane. I was humming to a song and tapping with my fingers on the wheel when my cell rang. I picked it up in my purse to see Bella on the display.
"Good morning." I greeted her.
"Where the fuck are you? I am waiting in your office and I am almost dying!! I want to talk!" Belle spoke fast and nervously, better say excited. I laughed loud. "Don't laugh Andrea, get your ass here soon alright."
"I would if I wasn't stuck in the damn traffic dear."
"Oohhh..." She muttered. "I don't care. I'll wait." I laughed again anticipating the subject on which she wanted to discuss with me. "Good morning." I heard her say.
"Belle." I called her.
"Wait." She ordered me. I heard a man's voice, but I could not understand what he was saying.
"Who's there?" I asked her but Belle was a master at ignoring me.
"You can leave it here. I'll give it to her when she gets here." She said.
"Belle?" I called her again. "Who is it?"
"Someone sent you flowers." She said giggling.
"Who?" I asked.
"I don't know but it has a card." She said. If I knew Belle quite well, she was dying to read the card.
"Read it. Who sent the flowers?" My heart was racing. Alex didn't have the habit of sending me flowers. He's always thought it was a waste of money and quite frankly I'd agree but then a woman likes nice gestures. "So?" I insisted. I heard Belle laugh loud.
"Oh Andrea...Andrea...You are so in trouble my friend." She said. "These are from your cute friend James." She dropped the bomb.
"You're kidding right?" I asked serious.
"No, I am not. And the card says: The unexpected can lead to many wonderful things." I swallowed dryly hearing it. "Aaaahh...Jesus...this is just so cute." She giggled.
"No it is not cute." I cringed like I was in terrible pain. "Look I need to hang up before I am caught talking on the cell while driving."
"I'm here." She yelled before I turned off. I rolled my eyes and laughed all alone in the car because of her and then I got serious all of a sudden because of James.
"What is he doing?" I spoke to myself. It took me another half an hour to finally park my car at the usual spot. It was still raining, and I had to cross the street running and with my purse over my head to protect me, still I got a bit wet before I entered the building. I greeted the security in a rush and headed to the elevators right away, reaching my office in seconds. My eyes dropped on the bunch of white roses on my desk. I shivered watching them, my hands began to sweat, and I grabbed them in my hands, and I did not resist to read the card with my own eyes.
"I am still here." Belle laughed. I shook my head incredulous.
"He is crazy!" I said.
"And the smile in your face Andrea...is priceless." She said laughing. "I think you're playing with fire and so is he."
"We are adults in relationships, but we can be friends right?" I told her sitting on my chair. Belle hooted with laughter. She could be annoying sometimes but in a good way because I joined her in the laughter. I don't know why I was laughing so much but my chest was pounding in such joy that it was scary.
"Oh Andrea..." She said catching her breath. "You two are just funny, friends? Yeah...that is in fact true but what I see is far from that. You lose track of time when looking at each other. You are both mesmerized...you stare at each other's eyes for hours and you guys don't even notice. The world around you doesn't even exist...it's cute but still you say you wanna be friends. Good luck with that."
