My day began really soon. Despite my will to stay in bed and sleep more there were too many things to prepare for the day and night. I wanted everything to be perfect for James, to make this Christmas something for him to remember in his heart. After showering and getting dressed I went to the kitchen and had my breakfast, surprisingly after eating my stomach flipped and I had to run to the closest toilet and puked it all out. I got up and washed my face, cleaning it at the pink towel right after. My mother caught me getting out of the bathroom still shivering and a bit pale from the nausea.
"Were you throwing up? I think I heard you heaving." My mother commented.
"I felt a bit weird after breakfast." I said shivering again.
"Is everything alright?" My mother came to me and ran a hand on my arm.
"I'm pregnant mom." I told her. I couldn't lie to her and since James was already aware of it I was free to deliver the news. My mother opened her eyes and smiled.
"Again?" She asked which caused me surprise.
"Mom, I told you we were trying since there was the possibility of the baby being compatible with Sarah." I told her but that was something that I had already talked to her over the phone.
"I know..." She said turning her back on me and walking to the kitchen. I frowned a bit confused looking at her and then decided to follow her.
"Mom." I called her when I caught her. "You're not happy for us?"
"I am, I am." She said.
"It doesn't seem like you are!" I exclaimed a bit indignant with her reaction. I sat at the table looking at her incredulous and she pulled a chair sitting right in front of me.
"I am Andrea." She said grabbing my hands. "It's just that when you told me about this you were just thinking about it, not sure about what to do. I mean...you are both right, anything is worth it to save your child but another kid..." She sighed and shook her head and I felt hurt, honestly I did. My eyes watered in seconds and I freed my hands from hers to clean my eyes.
"I know we had to rush things, and I also know that James pressured me a lot to do it but we're happy we're having this baby now and not only because of Sarah, who was our priority in our decision, but because the baby is a reality. Ever since we both agreed with this that we loved this kid and he didn't even exist yet. We were waiting for this moment..." I told her.
"I just don't want you to suffer, that's all." My mother smiled and I understood what her concern was.
"We are great together mom, don't worry." I told her. She got up and walked up to me, holding me against her belly and kissing the top of my head.
"Congratulations sweetie." She said pampering my hair.
"Morning." James voice made us both jump and look at the door. My mother walked up to him with her arms opened and James looked at her a bit clueless, then she cupped his face between her hands and kissed his cheek.
"Congratulations." She smiled at him and James figured out what that was all about and smiled back.
"Thanks." He said but his eyes were on me all the time. As soon as he got rid of my mother he came up to me and crouched by my side holding one of my hands in his.
"What's the matter?" He asked not caring if my mother was there and seeing it.
"Nothing." I told him.
"Your eyes are a bit red; you were crying." He told me.
"It was my fault." My mother admitted and James got up and looked at her a bit lost. "I made her believe that I wasn't happy with the news but that isn't true I am happy, I just thought you two rushed the decision." James shoved his hands in his pockets and looked at her puzzled. "I am also a mother; I have to right to worry too..." My mother told him a bit embarrassed, but I loved how she was brave enough to be that honest with him. James was far from being stupid or dumb and understood what my mother meant.
