"You're due around July." The doctor said as she scanned my belly and the little dot appeared flickering on the screen. "5 weeks, around 5 weeks." She confirmed. James gripped onto my hand with his eyes staring at the screen.
"And is everything fine?" I asked, just to be sure.
"Apparently yes. But you seem a little too exhausted Andrea, is everything alright with you? Have you been working too hard? Maybe you should take a break."
"No...it's nothing really." I smiled and I also lied. Of course there was something, something that was being taken care of, but it was still around.
"I am going to give you some vitamin supplies. You also look nervous, and you can't be. Do you want your baby to be born all distressed? That can't be...have lots of chamomile tea, that will calm you down." She advised. My belly was cleaned, and James waited while I put my clothes back on and then followed me and sat by my side. The doctor, who assisted Tyler's pregnancy, was writing the prescription. James held my hand and I smiled at him. At least he was there with me and he was trying, I saw a light at the end of the tunnel and next we would be going to the first appointment with his therapist. He was the one choosing it and she seemed to be an expert. I could imagine how he was feeling.
"Don't work too hard Andrea, I said it again, you look exhausted." She said and then she looked at James.
"I'll make sure she rests." James told her.
"Third kid, you guys are nuts." She laughed which caused us all to share the laughter.
"Let's say it was a little accident." I smiled.
"Well, everything is fine. You have the next appointment next month, meanwhile you take these pills once a day." She handed me the paper. "The first bottle is once a day, the other two, you already had it when you were pregnant with your boy, right before the meals and this one here, is if you feel really sick, to stop all that."
"Ok, thank you." We both shook her hands and we left. Near the elevator I grabbed James's hand and our gaze met.
"Are you ready?" I asked him and James nodded, but his eyes fell on his feet then and I took my hand to his chin and pulled his face up so he could look at me again.
"It's gonna be alright." I told him confident.
"I am scared." He confessed. I took a step forward and kissed his lips. "Now I feel much better." He smiled and I giggled.
"I knew you would." I said pinching his nose lightly. Ever since I picked him up at Pep's and we had that serious conversation that we had been bonding again and slowly rebuilding our life. We walked hand in hand until the car and then James drove us. He didn't talk much on our way there, I guess he was just too nervous. I confess I was a bit nervous myself, after all it was a huge step he was taking, not the one I thought it should be done, but at least it was something.. I was certain of his nervousness when we finally parked in front of the center's door and James took a deep breath before open the door of the car, and his face was a bit pale, his palms were sweaty. I could feel that when he held my hand, so before we got in, I gave him a tight hug, just to comfort him.
"I'm here." I told him.
James didn't say a thing, he just stretched his arm and pulled the door opened. A young woman came to us and greeted us both and finally, she guided us to another room. The place was painted in white and had enormous black chairs around it and in the center there was a table with several flyers concerning addictions so we could read. James didn't grab any, probably he was just too nervous to read anything, and I tried not to disturb him, he was sat really quiet with his eyes closed and his head tilted back, resting against the wall.
