November 1997

The kids were sleeping, and I sat watching a movie on DVD waiting for James to come back. It was late, the wind was gusting strongly, and the rain was heavy. San Francisco could be so rainy these months. I was worried about him driving under that weather and so late at night, but then I heard his truck coming in. James joined me in the living room, looking exhausted. He threw the keys on the coffee table and sat by my side.

"Hi babe." He said kissing my lips. "Feeling fine?"

"Yes." I smiled. "I was watching a movie and worried about you."

"I'm home then." He caressed my face.

"Wanna go to bed? I feel tired myself." I stood and turned the TV off.

"I guess I'd like that." He said getting up too.

James followed me upstairs. In bed, we talked a bit more and then the lights were turned off and we subsided to our fatigue. Later, I woke up with small pain in my lower belly. I turned on my back and opened my eyes in the dark realizing the slight pain that was attacking me. I tried not to move but when the pain began to bother me more I decided to get up. I was thirsty, so I decided to go to the kitchen and have some water. As my feet hit the floor and I stood, I felt water running down my legs and it all made sense in my head.

"Oh..." I whispered a bit shocked.

"Andrea..." James called my name in a sleepy voice.

"James, I'm in labor." I said. The light was turned on in seconds and he looked at me puzzled with his cute sleepy face. "The waters just broke." I smiled. He pulled the covers away quite fast and came to me.

"Oh...ah...what do you want me to do? Stay calm babe, stay calm." He turned to the closet and grabbed a pair of jeans. I giggled.

"You stay calm. It's late, we need someone to come here and stay with the kids. We can't leave them alone." I told him.

"Lars... Lars can come here. I am gonna call him. Sit, or get dressed, or..." He shut up like that searching for his cell, still a bit lost.

"On your nightstand." I pointed and he gave me a silly smile. "Can you calm down?" I smiled back at him.

James asked Lars to come over and apologized to call him so late, but the Danish said he would come and stay at our house. Belle was going to stay home with her kids, obviously, they had Lily and a two-month baby boy called Ayden.

"He's coming right away babe. Maybe we should let the kids sleep peacefully and they will know in the morning." He glanced at the alarm clock.

"2 am... nice time Vicky!" He exclaimed. I wanted to laugh but instead I winced a bit.

"Oh fuck, it's beginning to hurt." I said.

"Get dressed babe." James rushed to slid on a shirt and I grabbed the first dress I saw. We waited for Lars to arrive and the pain began to bother me a bit more.

"Oh God...." I breathed heavily, and James grabbed my hand trying to give me some support.

"Breathe sweetie." He said almost whispering and kissing my face after. He could be so sweet.

Lars must have taken half an hour to get to our house, which given the bad weather, wasn't long at all.

"Ok. I'm here, you guys go." He said right away.

"Crash in one of the rooms." I told him.

"Here on the couch is fine. Have a great hour." He told me kissing my cheek.
