I woke up whimpering with pain on my abdomen and before I even opened my eyes, I felt this familiar hand and touch on my face.

"Hey babe..." He whispered and I winced as the pain was just excruciating.

Finally opening my eyes, I found him holding our baby girl in one arm and the other was caressing my face.

"Oh God, it hurts so much." I cried.

"I'm gonna call a nurse, ok?" He said bending over me and kissing my forehead.

Without letting go of Victoria, he disappeared of the room and left me there alone waiting. Of all, I think that moment I'd rather have him there, you know, when you're in pain or sick and you just want that perfect person by your side, spoiling you and cuddling you, and he was my perfect person. Soon, though, he came back with a nurse and Victoria was completely passed out in his arms. She was so tiny, almost lost in his long arms. I realized he was letting her sleep on his lap.

"James, are you letting her sleep in your arms?" I asked him and he gave me his clumsy smile.

"Just a bit." He said.

"You can't, then she's gonna get used to it. You know how tricky they are." I said while the nurse put on some medicine through my catheter.

"You're gonna feel better now. If you need to go to the bathroom, you can drag this little stroller with you. You can walk, with help, but the least the better." She said.

James put Victoria on the crib and pulled a chair to sit by my side. He was changed and I realized he had been home.

"You were home?" I asked him.

"Yeah. The kids are fine, and Lars is gonna bring them later." He told me. "I had to check on them."

"What time is it?" I asked surprised.

"Three o' clock." He said. I was still a bit dazed and confused. "She has light green eyes." He smiled.

"Really?" I asked and James nodded still smiling and a hand stroking my hair.

"Yeah, she's got your old man's eyes. She's just so beautiful." He said again and I saw all the love he had for the baby mirrored in his eyes. "And she cries loud." He laughed.

"She cried while I was sleeping?" I asked.

"Oh yes... she doesn't cry, she yells! I don't know how she can cry so loud. Well, you heard her when she was born." He smiled.

"I didn't hear her cry; I was really passed out." I said.

"It was the medicine, the doctor told me."

"You can't let her sleep in your arms, you hear me?" I warned him. "I know it's so tempting to hold them and keep holding them but then she's gonna want to sleep in our lap and won't shut up. You know how it goes..."

"It's just that I can't get enough of her. She smells so good and she's so gorgeous and damn..." His smile was priceless. I realized how much he always wanted that baby, much more than I had imagined.

"Your other two children are gonna be jealous." I teased him.

"No... I love them too much to tell. It's just that she's tiny and has baby smell." Victoria cried a bit and James got up. "I think she's hungry, you know, because it's around time for her to eat again." He commented.

"It's my turn to do it." I said.

I also wanted to have my daughter in my arms, after all, I wanted that baby so much as he did. James adjusted my bed and the pillow behind my back and brought her to me. That's when I could see her pretty well. Her hair was blonde but not bleached as my other two kids, it was dark blonde, and her eyes were light green as James had pointed out and her nose was James's, my lips, my chin. Victoria was quite a mixture from mine and his genes. James came back with a bottle, that he handed to me and I fed Victoria for the first time with drooling daddy looking over my shoulder. Her eyes wide open, though she couldn't see us from that distance yet, but she was staring at us, maybe she was seeing shadows.
