I woke up to find an empty bed. I sighed a bit and trying to find a way to talk to James. I still had a guilty mind, after all he had asked me to marry him and I laughed in his face. I really thought he was joking...maybe he was caught by surprise by his own words too, but his reaction showed me I hurt him. The water in the shower wasn't running so I assumed he was downstairs.
"Time to get up." I said to myself pulling the covers away. I walked up to my closet and picked up a dress. A white simple dress I had bought last time I went shopping with Belle. I missed my moments with her, now we were always so busy. Her with her relationship, and me, not even being at the office. Next I went to the bathroom and ran to water to get warm, putting my hand under it and feeling it warm, I took my pajama off and placed myself under the shower, letting the water soaking my hair and body wet. I needed that every morning so I could be a normal human being during the day. The morning shower was a need in my life, I could not go without one. My brain wouldn't function properly.
Once showered and dressed I stopped by Sarah's room. I had to wake her up so she could get ready and go with James as I had settled with him. Her room was still a bit dark, but I heard her voice as soon as I stepped inside.
"I don't feel good mom." She said with a sad voice. I walked up to curtains and ran them open and then sat on the bed.
"You don't?" I asked grabbing her hand. "Did you sleep well?" I asked her as I noticed the grey bags under her eyes, a 10-year-old is not supposed to have those.
"Not really well, my belly hurt a little."
"You don't wanna get up?" I asked. And she nodded. "Are you hungry?" I asked her and she shook her head. "But you need to eat sweetie." I got up. "Look I am going to bring you a bowl of cereal, ok." Sarah closed her eyes ready to sleep again and didn't answer me. I ran downstairs and went straight to the kitchen without even looking for James, I didn't have to though. From the kitchen's window I saw him outside doing something on his truck. I prepared Sarah's breakfast and took it upstairs.
"I don't want it mom, I feel sick." She said.
"I give it to you, come on." I insisted with her and she opened her mouth but at the fourth spoon she pulled my hand away.
"I feel sick." She complained taking a hand to her stomach and so I helped her to the bathroom. Once there she threw up in the toilet. When she was done I washed her face and took her back to bed.
"You better rest." I told her tucking her back in, I kissed her forehead after and left the room. James was in the kitchen and didn't look at me when he heard me coming in. I put the bowl in the sink and then looked at him.
"Morning." I said.
"Morning." He answered in between his teeth, probably still pissed at me because of the previous night. My conscience killed me a bit more and I almost refused to ask him what I was about to ask, but then I had no choice.
"Can you please stay home in the morning, Sarah is not feeling good, she threw up." I told him.
"Can't you stay? I have to go to the studio." He said calm, quiet, slow and not looking at me.
"I have to meet my boss remember?"
James shrugged. "Then call him and tell him she is sick."
"You could stay home; you don't have a boss on your tail." I said beginning to be slightly pissed off myself.
"And yours should understand you have a daughter who is sick!" He shot back showing me he was annoyed. There he looked at me, but his gaze strayed from mine as soon as they met.
