Vetri was seated on a chair in the garden. He had chosen to read the newspaper outside for a change. The wind caresses his hair bringing a smile to Vetri's face. In the past year, many things had happened. But today was the first day of the new year. The new year had began just like how Vetri had envisioned it - celebrating it with family. The highlight of all the celebrations was when Malar and he had wished each other while admiring fireworks at the balcony.
Mudhan mudhalil paarthaen kaadhal vandhadhae (I saw you for the first time and fell in love)
Enai marandhu enthan nizhal poguthe (My shadow goes on forgetting me)
Ennil indru naanae illai (I am not in myself anymore)
Kaadhal polae edhum illai (There is nothing else like love)
Engae endhan idhyam anbe (Where is my heart, darling)
Vandhu saerndhatha (Did it reach you?)
Vetri was too occupied with his thoughts that he failed to realise that Malar had brought him coffee. Malar had been calling out a few times but Vetri had not reacted. Malar touches Vetri's shoulder in an effort to catch Vetri's attention.
Malar: Mama
Vetri jolts from his thoughts. He looks at Malar who passes him the coffee tumbler.
Vetri: Thank you Malar
Malar: What were you thinking about?
Vetri: Nothing
Malar: Okay. Anyway, Good Morning Mama!
Vetri smiles.
Vetri: Good Morning Malar!
Malar: Give me 5 minutes. I'll take the dried clothes in and we can go to the temple.
As Malar walks away, it finally dawns to Vetri that Malar was wearing the saree that he had chose for her. When Malar had told him about her friend's wedding in Chennai, Vetri had gone to the shop and purchased a silk saree for her to wear. However, due to some misunderstanding, he had not managed to pass it to her till date. Seeing Malar in the blue saree that he had picked for her, Vetri was spell bound.
Nandhavanam idho ingae thaan (Just here in this garden)
Naan endhan jeevanai naerinil paarthaen (I saw my soul before my eyes)
Nallavalae anbae unnal thaan (Oh dear good one, just because of you)
Naalaigal meethoru nambikai kondaen (I have started having hopes for tomorrows)
Nodikkoru tharam unnai ninaikka vaithai (You have made me think of you every second)
Adikadi en udal silirkavaithai (You have made me have goosebumps often)
Mudhal paarvai nenjil endrum uyir vaazhlumae (Memories of the first time i saw you will always live on forever in my heart)
Uyir vaazhlumae (It will live on)
When Vetri had imagined Malar in that saree, she was beautiful. But in reality, she looked like an angel. Vetri recalled the first time he had seen Malar after she came back from her college. He had happened to pass by the bus stand that evening and had seen Malar step out from the bus like an angel and coincidentally, she was wearing a blue saree. Vetri had lost his heart then but later, he had found out that Maran and Malar were in love so he did not take the crush seriously. Today, seeing Malar had brought back that memory and Vetri could not stop smiling.
Aezhu svaram ettaai aagatho (Won't the seven notes of music become eight)
Naan konda kaadhalin aazhathai paada (So that I could sing the depth of my love)
Thegam engum kangal thondratho (Won't my body have eyes everywhere)
Nee ennai paarkaiyil naanathai mooda (So that i could close them in shyness while you see me)
Malar had been watching Vetri while taking the dried clothes. She too had a smile on her face. This morning, Malar had opened the cupboard and noticed an additional package in the cupboard. Out of curiosity, she had opened it up and discovered that Vetri had actually bought her a new saree. She recalls seeing Vetri bringing this package home the evening that they were supposed to have left for Chennai together. Malar picked up the saree and found a matching blouse in the cupboard. She then wore that saree and brought coffee for Vetri. Initially, she knew Vetri did not notice the saree she was wearing but as she proceeded to take the dried clothes, she knew his eyes were on her. Malar started blushing but pretends not to notice Vetri. She quickly brings the dried clothes into their room and takes her phone and purse. She then heads down to meet Vetri to go to the temple.
Irudhayam muraipadi thudikkavillai (My heart is not beating normally)
Itharkumun ennakidhu nigazhndhathillai (This has never happened to me ever before)
Naan kanda maatram ellam nee thandhadhu (The changes that I am going through are all given by you)
Nee thandhadhu (All given by you)
As Malar approaches Vetri, her heartbeat quickens. Malar knew that many things had changed over the past year and the most important change was her accepting Vetri wholeheartedly. She knew that it was time to tell Vetri that she loved him and decided to do so at the temple.
Vetri: Shall we go?
Malar nods. Vetri smiles and extends his hand to her. She smiles and holds his hand.
Vetri: By the way, you look beautiful.
Malar looks into Vetri's eyes and thinks to herself that Vetri is the reason behind her genuine happiness.
Malar: Thank you for this saree Mama!
The two of them head towards Vetri's bike and head out to the temple.
