Annual Inter-Collegiate Cultural Competitions
"Munbe Vaa En Anbae Vaa..."
A sweet voice broke the silence in the hall. Malarvizhi was representing her university for the singing competition. As she sang, her eyes were searching the crowd for someone, who meant a lot to her - Vetrivel.
Vetri and Malar were in a relationship for a year now and this was their last year at university. The two were almost total opposites and often left their entire department wondering how did they even end up in a relationship. Today was their very first anniversary together and Malar had decided to surprise Vetri by singing one of their favourite song.
Eventually, Malar had located Vetri and the two shared an eyelock. As Malar exited after her performance through the backstage door, she began thinking about how Vetri would react once they met up. She checks her phone and notices a text message asking her to meet him at their classroom. Malar rushes to the classroom, making sure no one followed her.
She enters expecting a perfectly romantic setting but to her surprise there was no surprise for her. Vetri was just waiting as usual. Feeling a little disappointed, Malar goes nearer to Vetri.
Malar: Happy Valentine's Day Vetri!
Vetri: Atha vidu Malar. Nee enna nenchu paada ponae?
Malar: Yen? Puriyalaiya?
Vetri: Intha rehersalku porathuku pesama enkooda ukandhu assignments pannirukalam!
Malar: Naan padinatha pathi aasaiya naalu vaartha solluvaenu nenachi vantha ippadi solriyae! Inikki namma kaadhala solli oru varusham aachu. Anniversary athuvuma nee ippadi solurala! You know what Vetri. I'm leaving!
Malar stomps out crying. She had imagined this Valentine's Day to be a perfect one since Vetri was her first love. But it had turned out more like a nightmare. Malar decides to go home instead of staying back for the other performances.
At home,
Indira: Malaru, Vetri kitta irunthu phone vanthirukku
Malar: Naan avan kooda pesa mattaen ma, avankitta naan thoongitaenu sollu!
Malar locks herself in her room and cries till she falls asleep. At 9pm, she wakes up to a weird knocking sound.
Knock Knock
Malar: Vetri! Nee inga yenna pannura?
She opens her window to see Vetri standing on the parapet.
Vetri: Ulla vara help panna maatiya? Naan vizhunthu kaala odachikkanumnu unakku aasaiya irukka?
Malar pulls Vetri in and starts scolding him.
Vetri: Konjam amadhiya iru. Ippo naan pesanum!
