Vetri had been standing at the rooftop terrace and looking out at the view in front of him. The scenery in front of his eyes was beautiful but he could not focus on Mother Nature. Instead, Vetri closed his eyes as tears roll down his cheek. It was two weeks since he came to Pollachi to meet one of his father's friend and learn the secrets to agricultural farming.

The cold wind caresses his cheeks and his hair sways. Yet, every moment was just painful. All he could remember was Malar's laughter. That memory had kept him going through the two weeks. He remembered how the two of them had been playing hide and seek with the family before his father came home and broke the news that he would have to be away for some time.

He knew that Malar was disturbed by the separation as well but she had not shown it on her face. She had packed his bag and had told him that she would not call and disturb his training and had told him not to call either. Although Vetri had tried to convince her, Malar had strictly told him that her decision was final. It was extremely difficult for him to get through these two weeks but somehow he had managed.

Vetri opens his eyes and takes a deep breath. He then sits down with his back on one of the brick walls. Vetri's hand caresses the tattoo on his chest. Everything in the past two weeks had reminded Vetri about Malar - he missed her smile, her twinkling eyes, her warmth, her cooking, her jokes, actually every single bit of her. When he was out in the farm and vayal, his concentration was solely on work and learning. But it was moments of solitude like this that killed him.

Just then, his phone rings. He takes it out from his pocket and when he sees the screen, his face lights up. Vetri quickly answers the call.

Vetri: Hello, Malar

Malar: Enga irukeenga?

Vetri: Inga thaan. Manickam Mama veetula

Malar: Apadiya?

Vetri: Ama.

Malar: Enna panikittu irukeenga?

Vetri: Onnum illa, chumma mottamadila okandhu irukkaen

Vetri continues to talk with Malar. A few minutes later,

"Surprise!"

Vetri looks up to the direction of the voice and forgets to breathe.

Malar: Mama!

Vetri continues to stare without blinking. Malar sits down and touches Vetri's shoulder. Before she could say anything else, Vetri engulfs her in a hug. Malar puts her arms around Vetri and the two of them smile with happy tears rolling down their cheeks. Both of them finally felt alive.
