Vetri glances at the time on his phone. He mentally chides himself for being five minutes late and quickly climbs the steps leading to the temple on top of the hill. He had asked Malar to meet him there but he himself was late. As he climbs the steps, Vetri begins to think of Malar.

Vetri had been planning to propose his love to Malar many times but something would crop up and spoil his plans. After multiple attempts, he had finally decided to propose to her in a place that they both were fond of - the temple on the hill. The question now was whether she would accept or reject it. Deep down, he knew that Malar was fond of him but would did she realise it was love and not just care and concern? On a normal day, Vetri would have easily made his way up but today the climb seemed long and tough.

Malar had been glancing at the steps for five minutes now. She had been waiting for Vetri. She then notices a familiar figure coming up. With each step that Vetri took, her heart started beating faster and faster. What was it that Vetri wanted to tell her? Was it what she wanted to tell him as well? Or was it something that she wasn't prepared for?

Seeing Malar wait for him made him more nervous. Vetri mentally prepares himself and takes a deep breath. Whatever happens, he knew he had to tell her his love, today.

As he reaches the last step, he sees Malar in a familiar saree. A smile appears on his face as he recalls the incident that happened in the morning. Vetri had opened the cupboard to take his shirt when he had seen this saree. An inner gut feeling had told him that Malar would wear this to the temple later so trusting that feeling, he had picked out a matching white shirt. As expected, Malar was in that saree. This gave Vetri more confidence.
Malar manjam vizhi kenjum (Eyes seek a flower bed)
Manam manjamallavaa? (Isn't heart one?)
Vetri quickly mutters a prayer to the deity in the temple before turning towards Malar. He holds her hand and brings her to one side where there was no one.
Uyir minjum ival nenjam (Isn't her heart which bears life)
Un thanjamallava? (Your asylum?)
