Vetri and Malar were walking home from the temple.
Malar: Doesn't it feel nice to walk to the temple and back? We have become so dependent on your bike that everywhere we go, we always go on the bike.
Vetri smiles while thinking to himself. He used his bike wherever the two of them were headed because he liked it when Malar holds on to his shoulder. Malar would only do so when they ride the bike. On other days, she rarely held his hand.
Malar: Mama, are you okay? I have been speaking since just now but you did not even reply.
Vetri: I'm okay Malar. I'm just thinking about what else I need to do at our field tomorrow.
Malar gives him a glare.
Vetri: Sorry sorry. I know I should not be thinking about work when i'm out with you.
Malar laughs.
Neeyum naanum saerndhae sellum naeramae (The times when you and I walk together)
Neelam kooda vaanil illai enggum vellai meagamae (There is no blue even in the skies, only white clouds everywhere)
Poga poga yeno neelum thooramae (As we walk, why do these paths extend forever?)
Maegam vandhu pogum pokkil thooral konjam thoorumae (These clouds too sprinkle the drizzle as they pass by)
En acham aasai ellamae thallipogattum (LEt all my fears and desires go away)
Enthan inbam thunbam ellamae unnai saerattum (Let all my happiness and sorrow belong to you from now)
Naan pagal iravu nee kadhir nilavu (I am the day and night while you are the sun and moon)
En veyil mazhayil un kudai azhagu (When i am the sun and shower, you are the beautiful umbrella)
Just then, it starts to drizzle and very soon, the drizzle gets heavy. Malar quickly runs to the nearby tree to get sheltered from the rain. She turns around expecting Vetri to follow behind but he was still standing where he was.
Malar: Mama, come here. Why are you still standing in the rain?
Vetri looks at her mischievously. He walks closer to her and extends his hand out.
Vetri: Come here Malar.
Malar: No way
Before she could react, Vetri pulls her out into the rain.
Kathaala mulla mulla (In a forest filled with flowers of aloe vera)
Kothodu killa killa (I pluck them as a bunch)
Kollaiyodu alla alla vandha pulla (And take them as a bundle when you passed by)
Mundhanna thulla thulla (With your saree fluttering by)
Mugaraasi enna solla (How do I describe your face's charm)
Muthathaal enna kolla vandha pulla (You are the girl who came to kill me with her kisses)
Nee vendumae endha nilaiyilum enakkena nee podhumae (I need you, in any circumstance, you alone is enough for me)
Malar glares at Vetri.
Malar: Mama, look at what you have done.
Vetri: I did not do anything.
Malar tucks the end of her saree at her hip. Vetri knew what she was going to do and moves back one step at a time.
Vetri: No Malar
Malar: Don't move away.
Vetri: Malar...
Malar: Mama, come here.
Without any warning, Vetri runs. Malar runs behind him and tries to catch hold of his shirt. Vetri was way faster than Malar and kept managing to escape from her. Malar comes to a stop. She knew she could not catch up with Vetri.
Malar: Ayyo Mama.
Oli illa ulagathil isaiyaaga neeyae maari kaatril veesinaai (In my world, devoid of music, you transformed into music)
Kaadhil pesinaai (And gently spoke into my ears)
Mozhi illa maunathil vizhiyaalae vaarthai korthu (Even in silence which has no language, you knit words with your gaze)
Kannal pesinaai (And spoke to me with your eyes)
Vetri turns and sees Malar wincing in pain. He runs to her.
Vetri: What happened ma? Are you okay?
Malar controls her laughter and pretends to be in pain.
Vetri: Malar, what happened?
Before Vetri could say anything else, Malar holds onto his earlobe. She breaks out laughing. It was then that Vetri realised that Malar was playing with him.
Vetri: I got so scared. I thought something had happened to you.
Malar: Mama, I am perfectly alright. Now coming back to this, did you think you could run away from me?
Vetri smiles sheepishly.
Malar: For getting wet in the rain and making me get wet along with you, you have to have a punishment.
Nooru aandu unnodu (For a hundred years with you)
Vaazhavendum mannodu (I should live on this soil)
Pen unnai thedum endhan veedu (My house searches for you, oh girl)
Vetri looks at Malar.
Malar: I will be nice to you. You get to choose what punishment you want.
Vetri grins and before Malar could react, he swept her off her feet into his arms.
Malar: Mama, what are you doing?
Vetri: I chose my punishment. I am going to carry you home.
Malar: Mama, everyone is looking.
Vetri: Let them see that I am carrying my wife.
Nee vaendhumae indha piraviyai kadanthida nee pothumae (I need you for me to transcend this birth, you alone are enough for me.)
Malar tries to persuade Vetri but he playfully refuses to let her down. Left with no choice, Malar agrees. The two of them head home, with a big smile on their faces and lots of love in their hearts.
