“She keeps calling, maybe you should just answer and get it over with?” Lily says again, she's abit sober now, and I groan because sober bestfriend is right bestfriend. “Or text her, tell her you're busy or something.” She adds.
I nod my head and reach for my phone, I answer accept and start waking towards the car park for more privacy since it's most likely going to be deserted, considering the lake is almost too crowded right now, and my corrections are absolutely right when I find the place empty, not a living person in sight, well besides myself.
“Roxanne?” I say into the phone that awaits my doom of an aunt who won't leave me alone! “I was asleep, what do you want?” I ask when she doesn't respond.
“Ah, Sophia, how are you doing? I would say I'm sorry for disturbing your sleep but from the background music, I'd say otherwise.” She muses and I curse myself, shit.
“Uhmm. . . yeah so—?” I mumble.
She sighs and I can picture her rolling her eyes at me, “You know what I want, Sophia, give her the phone. I'm tired of these games.” She says and it's nothing new because she asks for the same thing every single time that she calls.
It's like a mantra with her.
I swear, my aunt repeats this statement so many times that I know it off by heart now, even if it comes in different forms and words, I still know it.
Honestly, it's the only reason she ever phones me for nowadays but I don't mind. I would prefer it if she never called but we all can't get what we want.
“She isn't here, Roxanne, I don't even know why you're trying so hard because you know that even if she were in then you would be the second last person she would want to converse with so could you, I don't know? Drop it already.” I snap at her, not liking what she's asking of me.
“Dunley wants to talk to her, please, Sohp—”
I block her out, my eyes focusing on the familiar figure walking towards me, my heart beat races.
“Sophia Parkeswood!” Roxanne scolds making me tune her in again and I frown. “Now listen, either your precious mother gives me a call or I'm flying down there tomorrow.”
I freeze and then I internally panic.
What am I going to do now?
King comes to stand before me, guilt and concern lacing his features as he stares at me, I look away, unable to face him without thinking of what he did.
“Okay okay!” I stop her from another long lecture. “I'll get mum to phone you as soon as possible, she is very busy, you know.” I try, maybe she won't take the risk of flying down here because I know I won't be able to face her.
