Sophia.
The annual brunch is this amazing barbeque that our neighborhood likes to throw one a special Sunday, it's actually just a random Sunday but that really isn't the point— the point is, we all have a bring and share.
It's also almost always hosted behind the left side houses, the one that faces the woods to be specific because on this side, it's much more spacey and earthy.
And not to mention, it has a lot and I mean alot of play room for the little kids that are running already and finding new things to do. It gives both them, the adults and teenagers all equal space to chill and relax, I guess.
All the neighbors on this street get along great, everyone is like this large tight knit family who I, personally, love very much. I don't have a real family and I never did but whatever family is then I know, these people are exactly that, they've always been the closest forms of family.
Singing.
Dancing.
Good food.
Drinking.
And games, alot of games.
That's been the memo so far.
It's already past two in the evening and everything is so great and nice, and awkward— because his eyes are glued to me, it's like his a damn hawk or something.
I tried my best to ignore him and I'm actually proud that it's been hours and still I have yet to make eye contact with him. I've spared side glances at him, of course, everyone here has probably looked at him in shock already.
Georgina and Mario are here too! And let me just say one thing, everyone loves the soon to be married couple.
Who wouldn't though? They are really nice and funny and they hold good conversation. I had spoken to them today for a whole hour while Jacobi tried hitting on Georgina throughout— that little man is the damn player of players!
Nora was somewhere around, that much I knew from the delighted and happy screams from the little girl.
When I had said that to him, he really had the biggest smile on. “Excuse me, my future wife calls.” He politely bowed and run off, like some hyper child who needed candy again and that child hated candy, how weird.
I swear that boy is going to cause a lot of troubles when his older, I can already see it and since I babysit him on most days, too, and because I know him since he was just a baby, I already know that he screams trouble.
I laugh at my thoughts as my eyes scan the area, never once looking at the table on the far right.
A short, plump and familiar looking woman hovering over the buffet table catches onto my attention and with a huge smile on my face, I rush over to her.
Mrs Finley is muttering and complaining to herself about something that isn't there and needs to be here, when I go to stand beside the old woman who is like a grandmother to me and I smile, asking if I could help with whatever is wrong and almost instantly she shakes her head no— which means, yes there is a problem but she won't tell me what it is or what I could do to help solve the problem.
“Must you be so busy all the time, my dear, why don't you take a break and relax.” She scolds, narrowing her eyes.
“But you need help, yes?”
“Yes but I've got this covered here, yo—”
“What do you need then, Mrs Finnley?”
The woman grumbles and mutters under her breath about me being so stubborn and a busy body, rolling her eyes and shaking her head, and I smile at her.
“Fine,” She exclaims, throwing her hands up in defeat, after a few long minutes of thinking it over and my smile only widens further, I always win with her— no matter how hard and stone she tries to act, it never works. “I've left that chocolate cake at home, it's an hour drive so no! But do you maybe have one in shop?” She questions, hopeful.
Mrs Finley and her husband aren't apart of this neighborhood but they come anyway, most people do, because everyone loves and adores them or maybe they were invited over by someone. It doesn't really matter.
“Actually. I do have one, how weird is that?” I murmur.
I had baked one last night, to celebrate, but hadn't gotten into eaten it yet because I was far too tired.
“Great! Let me just call Li—”
“No! I mean, I can get it by myself.”
“Are you sure? I don't want you tiring out before six, it's cards and you're always my partner, I refuse to lose to that dumb nut Jake!” She blows up in a fussy and I bite my lip to stop my laughter. “Anyway, get going then. It'll take a while but be back before four!” She warns.
I nod my head and get ready to leave when her hand grips my arm, I look back over to her and find her focused on something else. I frown and follow her line of sight.
“Mr King!” She calls and I freeze.
Oh no no no no no!
This can not be happening!
I try tugging my arm away from the old woman and I succeed, ready to run off but the warning glare she shoots me tells me to stand the fuck down and I obey.
A dark shadow blocks the sudden away but I don't dare to look towards him, knowing full well that his eyes are trained on me because I feel his burning gaze at the side of my head. I feel myself go red faced to his heated focus.
“Right, I've gotten her.” The woman says and I gasp, turning to face her, shocked. “You two get going, I need that cake for the little ones.” She shoos us away, completely ignoring me and my, I can do it alone.
My eyes narrow at the old woman— that sneaking little woman! I internally curse myself as I stomp my way through the house and out the door, leaving him behind, I quickly run down the street as fast as my legs can take me, ignoring the burning of my muscles and the heat.
I refuse to be near him, even if my heart is crying.
I ended things in Santorini.
And he didn't try stopping me.
Yet— he claims he loves me.
Bull— fucking— shit.
