Chapter Three

A few hours later and Harrison, Maxi and I watch the water. Every single Lifeguard that came in, in the hours that we've been in here ask what happened and I would tell them all the same lie.

My head starts to ring. I put the Binos down and squeeze my eyes shut. "Ugh."  I put my palm to my head.

"Everything good over there?" Maxi asks still looking through the Binos.

"Yup. Just need to get some ice or maybe an Advil." I get up and stumble a bit running into one of the chairs. "Oops." I chuckle

"You alright Tessa?" Harrison asks looking away from the Binos as I make my way over to the stairs.

"Yeah everything's fine." I tell him looking into his Hazel green eyes, my god is he—my foot misses the second last step.

I fall right on my face. "Ow.."

"Are you alright?!" He asks I can hear his chair roll away.

"You alright Tess!" Maxi shouts I can sense that he's still looking at the water which is good.

"Yeah I'm good." I groan as I get up now feeling a future bruise on my shin, embarrassment heating my face. I wave him off and give a thumbs up before heading to my bag.

I pop two Advil with my Blue Powerade, then grab a small bag, open the icebox, and scoop some ice into it.

I go back up the stairs holding the ice pack to my head and my Powerade in the other.

I sit down with a pouting face. Maxi looks at me and chuckles at my look, "You are clumsy." He laughs

"Oh shut it Trent." I pout he only laughs more.

"Keep your eyes on the water." I tell him as I pick my binoculars to my face holding the ice pack to my head.

A few more hours later I hear some one walk in.

I look to see who it is and it's Hayden. I gulp, "Uh oh.."

I quickly run back to my seat and look into the binos.

"Tess." I look up, "Oh Hayden hi." This grabbed Maxi and Harrison's attention. I waved my hand telling them to just keep watching the water.

I walked over too him. "What?"

"Where did you put my beer?" He shouts in a whisper his voice cold and dark.

"What?"

"I said where did you put my beer!" He shouts a little I look back at Maxi and Harrison there both looking at the water.

"Shh!" He grabs my arm, "Ow let go!" I shout whispering and pulling my arm out of his grip. "I'm working. You go find it. You have two legs and a heart beat."

His jaw clenches and I flinch.

"Where is it."

"Sh! Can't we just talk about this later."

"No I want my beer."

"Let's talk about this outside." I tell him pushing him outside out of ears listening.

"I didn't hide your bloody beer Hayden."

"Did you return it or something!" He asks his voice ice cold.

"No! Why in god's name would I want to do that?"

"I don't know because you're a cold hearted bitch."

"Accuse me? Your the one who's cold hearted." I shoot back

He grabs my arm, "Don't you test me. Just because your at work doesn't mean your safe."

"Ow, Hayden! Let go!" Shout trying to rip my arm out of his grasp.

"She told you to let go of her arm." I look up to see Harrison standing in the doorway.

"Harrison it's okay I got this."

"What's going on down there!?" Maxi shouts,

"Nothing Maxi just keep watching the water!" I shout back

"Is this the guy that your seeing?" He asks now on a new subject as he lets go of my arm walking up to him chest puffed. Hayden was built like a brick shit house. You didn't want to mess with him because he would tare you to pieces.

"What no! He's a new trainee!" I grab his stiff arm and try to pull it back. "He's innocent!" He throws me off him and I hit the metal patio of the tower.

"Don't you touch her like that! No women should be treated like that." Harrison barks ready to kick his ass if he needed too.

"Harrison you don't hav-"

"What's going on here?" I look up to see Jesse and he's in his regular clothes meaning he's not on duty.

"Tessa's boyfriend is being ruff with her. I bet he gave you that bruise on your cheek and that black eye."

Shit, I think to myself

"Did he do that to you?" Jesse asks
I was speechless not knowing what to say I look down not meeting his gaze.

"I think you need to leave." Jesse tells him sternly. Hayden doesn't move, "Either leave. Or stay and I can call the police to come pick you up and I can't say you won't be going without a couple of bruises." Jesse tells him puffing his chest out. "Leave, or stay. Two against one plus a couple of coppers. Which one is it going to be?" Jesse tells him not taking his glare off of him.

Hayden huffs and pushes past, both Jesse and Harrison glare at him as he walks away.

Jesse puts out hand and I take it. He pulls me to my feet, "You alright?" He asks as I brush myself off.

"Yeah thanks.." I look at Harrison, "Thanks for standing up to him guys.." I thank them brushing my hair between my ears.

"No problem." He smiles

"He'll abuse me when I get back.." I whisper. "He'll probably just do it more..."

"Dump him then."

I look up at Harrison, "It's not that simple.."

"We'll beat his ass if he gets close to you or even lays a finger on you." Jesse tells me. I chuckle lightly,

"I'm serious."

"Okay I'll figure something out, but right now I have to watch the water with Maxi and so do you Harrison." I tell his gesturing him to go inside. "Thanks again Jess."

"No problem Tess." We both grin at how our names rhymed, Jesse was the first one I really connected with when I was a trainee I looked up to him like a big brother, and I still do

I walk back in the tower.
