Chapter 102

I do a flip in the water at the end of the lane and push off the wall, and do a dolphin swim kicking my legs softly together.

I resurface taking a breath, and start front crawling again.

I do that for what seems like a thousand times but I'm counting.

On my last two laps I go top speed faster then what I started with.

I put my hand on the block breathing heavily.

"9.45!" Azza says writing it down, "I think that's the fastest that anyone has gone."

"Really?" I ask lifting myself and sitting on the edge out of breath. Olivia was 35 seconds faster then me! It sucks that she can't apply... I take my swim cap off.

"Yeah! Nice job." He pats me on the back.

I beam standing I breathe heavily putting my hands on my knees.

"Tessa you did amazing!" Harrison says from behind me. I turn around and he gives me a hug not caring that I'm getting his shirt wet. He hands me my towel.

"Fuck. Turn off the bloody cameras aye mate."

I turn around to see Matt Dee get out of the water and sitting on the edge.

"Oh no.."

He gets up and goes to his towel.

I go over to Hoppo. "Hoppo you gotta give him a second try. He's got a fever, how is that fair?"

Hoppo sighs, "Well he could've came to me before hand."

"Oh come on Hop. We all know most lifeguards think your intimating, and he probably thought you would say no."

"Well I would've said it was fine."

"Okay so why not give him another chance. Come on look at him."

I look over to Matt Dee who has his face in his towel obviously crying. I mean who wouldn't in his situation?

I hear Hoppo sigh, I look over at him with a smile. "Alright, I'll go talk to him."

"Yes! Thank you Hop." I smile giving him a hug. "Oh sorry.." I seeth noticing his shirt now wet.

He goes over to Matt Dee. "Good on ya for standing up for Matt." Harrison tells me.

"Well he deserves another chance he is sick."

We get to the beach for the next and final round.

"Starting on this line here, swimming out around the can. Then come back to get a board then back out around the can then the run. Do the course twice okay?" Deano shouts, "The course takes about between 20 and 25 minutes. If your not in within five minutes you fail the test."

As usual my heart beats in my throat I'm nervous then ever.

"You can do this Tess." Harrison tells me patting me on the back.

I breathe heavily the pressure is really on. "I can't do this.." I tell him already breathing heavily. "I'm already breathing heavily."

"What's goin on over here?" Deano asks before he does the air horn.

"I can't do it...I can't..."

Azza comes over, "The hell you can." He starts I look up at him, "You just did 22 laps in 9.45." He patts me on the back and lightly pushed me on the line. Behind some of the guys. "Now get out there and show me what I know you can do." Azza says

I nod my breathing getting a bit better, "I-I can do this. I can do this!" I shout

"That's the sprit!" He cheers

I hear the air horn.

I book it to the water pasting all the boys that were in front. I dive in and start swimming. I don't bother to look behind me as that will only slow me down.

I go around the can and swim back in. Once back on shore I grab a lifeguard board and run in the water with it.

I hop on the board and start paddling, much faster then my swimming I quickly go around the can.

I didn't see any of the boys pass me yet. I get off the board and start doing the run. Then I go back in the water and swim.

Once done the board paddling I get off my board and drag it to the dry sand so it doesn't get swept out into the ocean.

I do the run sprinting as fast as I can my legs going to collapse any moment.

I run faster as I see the line I past it and Deano clicks his timer.

Jake runs in after.

I get out of the way of other people and just collapse on the sand completely dead.

"3.34." Deano says to me

"You serious?" I ask lifting my head to look at him.

"Serious. You did amazing!"

I sigh putting my head back down the camera man films me. I put a thumbs up and put my arm back down.

"I don't know how I'm gonna do the lifeguard challenge..." I tell myself out of breath

Harrison comes over to me towering above my body, "Oh hey Harrison." I smile squinting from the sun.

"3.34 that was awesome! I knew you could do it!" He puts his hand out and I give him a high five then let my arm fall.

"Now....time to work." I get up and Harrison pulls me to my feet.

We're down at North today.
