Chapture Four

I plop on the chair beside Harrison and sigh.

"What ya thinking?" Harrison asks

"I'm thinking about my bed." I tell him slumping down and resting my head in my hands.

"Anything else?"

"A new life."

"Oof." Maxi says, I forgot he was even there. 

"Well it's true. My life sucks right about now."

"No your life sucks because of that Doongi." Harrison says

"Doongi?" I giggle and Maxi does too.

"Your life sucks because of that dumb ass. Once you dump him it will be all better." Harrison repeats, looking out to the water.

"I guess." I sigh as I look into the binos. Not as easy as you think..

"I can come with you when you do tomorrow if ya want?" He offers

"That would be nice to have someone there with me.." I grab the radio, "Central to North. There's a kid in front of forth ramp who's drifting out of the flags. Keep an eye on her."

"Copy." Whippet says

I continue to look at the water searching for struggling swimmers.

The day ends and Harrison and I take the flags down.

"I really appreciate what you did for me today Harrison. Standing up for me." I tuck a stray hair behind my ear and smile shyly.

"Wish I meet you sooner that way you would've never got those bruises or just be there when he punched you I would've stopped it."

"No would've got the bruises instead."

"Well it would protect you from getting hurt." I smile feeling my cheeks begin to warm as we heave the last flag onto the buggy.

I felt tears prick my eyes. I notice and wipe them away. All the sudden I just break down.

"Woah, woah, hey Tess." He wraps his arms around me

"He won't stop...he'll find me. Some how. Even if I move...I don't want to face him Harrison..." I cry wrapping my arms around him tight.

"I'm scared...I'm scared to what he'll do...the bruises you see are him not using his full strength and if he goes to jail I'm sure he will kill me for putting him there if it's me or anyone.." Everything that I've been holding in just spills out of me like a broken piñata.

I hiccup cry's and he just holds me my body jerking from my hiccups. "We'll figure something out." I take a deep breath my body relaxing a little.

"I'm so exhausted..." I whisper, "I just want to sleep....but he'll never let me.." I close my eyes and breathe in. His cologne filling my nose.

"Well you could stay with Maxi." I pull away from Harrison. "I'm sure he won't mind sleeping on the couch." He chuckles jokingly lighting the mood.

I chuckle as I wipe my tear soaked cheeks.

"Ugh I'm a mess." I chuckle turning away from him.

"Nah, you could never be a mess."

I turn back to him, "Even with this honker on my cheek and my black eye."

"Bruises and all, you still look good to me." He smiles

I blush a little.

"Well better put these away." He tells my gesturing to the flags and signs.

"Yes we should." I chuckle

After I head to the change room and wiggle out of my bathing suit and lifeguard shirt and shorts.

The shirt and short slip out my hands. I try to catch it but fail, watching as the both fall into a big puddle of water from the shower. I sigh, "Really?" I snatch up the now soaking wet lifeguard uniform and it flicks me in the face. "Really." I squeezed them out and throw it in the plastic bag with my bathing suit. I grab my little bottles of soap and head into the shower.

I have a quick shower in the girls change room which is empty at this time and no one comes in but I always lock the door because I ain't showering in my bathing suit.

I get dressed and put my small bottles of shampoo and conditioner in my bag.

I head to the tower.

I stand outside the tower while Harrison asks.

"You want Tess to stay the night?"

"If that's alright with you.." Harrison tells him

I hear Maxi sigh, "Well I guess but I'm not sleeping on the couch."

"I can sleep on the couch." I tell them entering the tower drying my hair with my towel.

"Don't be silly I'll take the couch. Your the guest." Harrison smiles

I know how it will go if I say no again then we'll be going back an forth as the both of us are too nice.

I follow Maxi's car with mine not knowing where to go.

Soon we pull up to an Apartment building.

We both park our cars and get out that the same time like one of those majestic Slow motion clips in movies, we both close our doors. All we need is some sick ass music.

"I like it. It's cute," I smile

Maxi looks at me quirking his eyebrow. "You haven't even been in it yet and it's cute?" Maxi scoffs putting a hand on his heart, "That hurt." He says sarcastically. I snort, my eyes widen and I cover my mouth, "Now that's cute."

Did...did Maxi just flirt with me?

I roll my eyes playfully smiling. Following Maxi inside Harrison behind.

We go up the stairs and walk down the hallway. I look at the moderness of the building which is not what it looked like on the outside when suddenly Maxi stops and I run into his stiff body, "Oof."

He puts the key in the lock and unlocked it opening the door. "Welcome to our Dome."

"It's a lot cleaner that I was expecting."

"What?! I'm a clean person! It's Harrison you have to worry about."

"What?! Nooo!"

Maxi snickers and I slap him playfully. "Ow." He jokes

Then I see it. The couch, the perfect place to just take a nap. I plop on the couch, "Carfu—"

"Ow!" I rub my back

"There's a spring loose." Harrison warns finishing his sentence.

I sit up and see the edge of the spring sticking out of the cushion. "How is the spring this long?!" I asked shocked that it went though the cushion. "So this is why you guys don't like to sleep on it?"

"Up. It's more comfortable if you slept on the floor really." He tells me talking more to himself as he scratches his head thinking about it.

"Well I can sleep on the floor if you want. I don't mind."

"No your taking my bed." He tells me

I blush with embarrassment to what I'm doing to ask. "Do you-" I pause my voice smaller then I wanted. I clear my throat, "Do you uh..do you have a shirt I could barrow? I don't really want to sleep in just my bra and underwear, I dropped my lifeguard shirt and shorts in a puddle in the change room." I flush embarrassed that I had to ask. But I didn't want to sleep in my jeans. It's so uncomfortable.
