I hopped into my car and drove as fast as I could. I didn't mean to ghost Logan like that but I guess in life, some people will always be more important.
I haven't seen my dad in ages and suddenly Jace calls me that he's at home and wants a family meeting.
Really Dad, you disappear for ages and when you're back, instead of you to come visit us and surprise us like a normal father, you command us to come home.
I slammed my front door and ascended the stairs to our meeting lounge. Yes, we have a special living room for meetings.
"You came" Jace said
"Yeah, where's he?"
"I don't know, probably having a fight with Mom. I actually don't give a damn whatever shit they're up to" He cursed
"Chill bro, everything's going to be ok" I patted his shoulder.
The doors swung open and the two most horrible parents ever existed came into the room.
"I was expecting a hug or at least a smile from my children but I guess I was wrong" I rolled my eyes at my dad's statement.
"Since when did you start considering us as your children. We are just unlucky offsprings" I said
"Watch your tongue, young lady" My mom spat.
"Says the person who was just insulting him a few minutes ago" Jace murmured under his breath
"I actually thought you guys would be happy to see me"
"Why would we possibly be happy to see a man who abandoned us when we were kids?"
"I had my reasons and you know it. I was always working hard for your future. I tried everything a father would"
"Maybe you were too busy trying to make this family work that you didn't realize that this was already a broken family. You tried everything you could but clearly, your stupid efforts make no difference"
I stood up in anger and slammed the door on my way out. I collapsed on my bed and groaned.
Ugh, I can't believe them.
"Rough day, huh?" I stood up in shock when I heard someone's voice.
"Oh it's you" I laid back down when I saw Maddie leaning on my closet door frame. "What are doing here by the way?"
"Well, your parents suddenly came home, how do you think they'll act if they find out their son's girlfriend lives here. This is the last place anyone will come to because I heard Jace actually talks to them but you don't"
"You know they don't actually care about such things. For all I know, they just don't want us to be associated with middle class people"
"How are you friends with Darcey? Oops, I didn't mean it like that, it definitely sounded better in my head" She sat down on my bed
"I don't care what they think of her, they're not the boss of me"
"Erhh"
"Are you here to annoy me or help me out?" I asked
"Definitely the second one. How was your date by the way?"
"It wasn't exactly a disaster, I mean other than the fact that I practically ran out on my date, yeah it wasn't a disaster"
"Have you called or at least texted him?" She asked
"Mads, we were on a date like two hours ago"
"So?"
"I can't text him, I'm not that desperate"
"Alright" She smiled and walked out of my room.
Today is a brand new day and since today is Sunday and it's basically my day off, I'm going to hang out and have fun with my squad.
I decided to call Darcey and find out if she was hanging with the others today. They have this whole Summer of Fun planned out and I'm completely left out because of my stupid job.
"Hey, I was just calling to find out if you guys were hanging today"
"Of course we're hanging but oh my gosh, are you coming? Don't you like have a job?"
"Yeah but I'm free today and I thought I'd hang"
"Meet us at Downtown Brew" She said
I hung up and went into my closet to look for an outfit. I settled for a jean shorts and a sports bra. It's like ninety degrees outside so my outfit is very relatable.
As I was styling my hair, my ringtone echoed in my room. Did Darcey forget something? I answered the call without checking the ID.
"Did you forget to tell me something? Why are you calling me?" I said
"Oh, you walked out on our date and now you don't even wanna talk? Did I like do something wrong?" My eyes widened in embarrassment as I finally looked at the Caller ID.
"No,no, I thought you were someone else. I'm sorry, I didn't check before answering"
"It's alright but you can make it up to me by hanging out with me today. I know fancy stores like the one you work in doesn't open on Sundays, so you're free"
Oh no, I don't want to turn him down but I already have plans.
"Yeah but I have to like go to.....church. Yes church, Amen brother" I stammered
"You don't seem like a church girl to me"
"Well, I'll have you know that I'm a member of our Choir"
"Are you lying to me?"
"Yes" I exhaled
"Already got plans, yeah I saw that coming"
"Wait, why don't you meet me at Downtown Brew?"
"Sure"
What in Luca's Membrane was that? Why on Earth would I ask him to come hang with me when I'm hanging with my friends. Am I planning to introduce him to my friends?
I mean sure I can introduce him as my friend but knowing the animals that I call my friends, they won't take my word for it.
