Today's one-shot is a little bit different. This is my gay English essay. So I hope you enjoy it. A quick summary of the story is, Written in 1924, "The Most Dangerous Game," by Richard Connell, who has grown to be one of the most popular short stories worldwide. It has sparked numerous adaptations as well as inspired other pieces of fiction, from poems and novels to film and TV. The story is an ironic tale about the hunting of humans, and a commentary on the morality of man, and the instinct versus logic argument. As the story opens, Sanger Rainsford, a game hunter, is on a ship traveling to an island to hunt the largest cat of the region – the jaguar. Rainsford and his friend Whitney discuss the effects of man on the animal kingdom and how the animals must feel. They talk about how lucky they are that they are the hunters, not the hunted. After Whitney turns in, Rainsford hears gunshots on the shore, and as he tries to shift closer to investigate, he falls overboard. When he realizes that he cannot swim back to the boat, he decides to swim toward the island, where he washes up onshore. Rainsford finds himself at an oddly out of place chateau. He finds the owner, General Zaroff. Zaroff is also a big game hunter, and so he and Rainsford have a long, engaging discussion about hunting and animals. Rainsford explains his situation, and Zaroff gives him a large meal and a place to rest. However, after the hospitality, Zaroff reveals that hunting bores him because it no longer holds challenges it once had. He now hunts much bigger game – the sailors whose ships crash into the island. He mentions how he gives them food, rest, and some survival schooling then sends them out into the jungle with some supplies and provisions. Then the hunt begins. Zaroff tells Rainsford that if a target can survive for three days without being killed by him, he will let him go – however, none of his past victims have lasted that long. My lovely English teacher had us write the ending of it. So here it is. A man, who had been hiding in the curtains of the bed, was standing there.

(Don't mind the format, that is how our teacher wanted us to write it. I wrote the part that is not in the bold).

"Rainsford!" screamed the general. "How in God's name did you get here?"

"Swam," said Rainsford. "I found it quicker than walking through the jungle."

The general sucked in his breath and smiled. "I congratulate you," he said. "You have won the game."

Rainsford did not smile. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice. "Get ready, General Zaroff."

The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford."

The Most Dangerous Game

The general made one of his deepest bows. "I see," he said. "Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford." The general said with triumph.

"I see no reason to fight. For I seek peace," Rainsford said with a charming smile. Zaroff was speechless. It was silent as a graveyard. The only thing you could hear were the waves crashing on the soft earth.

"Why is it you seek peace, Rainsford?" Zaroff asked as he held a sword to Rainsford's neck. Rainsford visibly gulped.

"I-I seek peace because I would love to try and get to know you, instead of us killing one another," Rainsford said with a half-smile. Zaroff dropped his sword in confusion. Zaroff looked Rainsford right in the eyes. Zaroff was mesmerized by his beautiful eyes. They looked like honey when the sun hit them right.

"Your eyes shine like diamonds in the sky," Zaroff said, running a hand down Rainsford's face. Rainford's face turned as red as a tomato.

"Thank you," Rainsford said.

"Come with me, we shall take a walk along the shore," The general said, taking Rainsford's hand and leading him out of the bedroom.

The two walk on the rocky shore through a moonless night. The stars shined over the smalt sea. "It's a beautiful night tonight," Rainsford said looking up at the sky.

"Almost as beautiful as you," Zaroff said as he winked at Rainsford. The wind whistled between the two. For a seemingly endless time, the men were silent.

Finally breaking the silence, Rainsford said, "Men waste so much of their lives fighting one another. Do they not Zaroff?"

Zaroff said, "Alas...I am afraid 'tis true."

"It is getting late, shall we return to the castle?" Rainsford said. Zaroff nodded. Silently, solemnly, the men sauntered back to the estate.

The warmth of the house felt like an embrace. Together the men fed the hounds. Then they slowly made their way up to the second floor and to the room with the excellent bed. It had been a long day, the men were tired, and bid each other goodnight. He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided...as did Zaroff.

This was definitely something different so I hope you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful day you beautiful mortal being. This was a little short, but I will take a nap and in like three hours or so, I will post one or two one-shots.
