Spooktober.22

a/n: a short oneshot about Peter making his original suit?? idk this was a cool idea in my head, I find it interesting to think about. enjoy :^)

"Then, you make sure these line up, and you press your foot on the pedal to get it started." May pushed down on pedal of the sewing machine, and sewed a perfect seam between the two spare fabrics.

Peter nodded and took her seat behind the machine, and the copies her previous actions. The pattern is sloppy, and the machine goes a lot faster than he thought it had.

He was twelve at this time, practicing to sew so that he could contribute clothes to the F.E.A.S.T organization that May was working hard to start up. She taught him how to sew with his hands a few months prior, and now he had been taught how to use the sewing machine.

Peter looks back fondly on these memories now, because he remembers clearly how he had sewn together his first Spider-Man suit using spare sweat clothes in the back of his closet and the same trusty sewing machine.

He had spent hours trying to draw a design. He needed something practical, and something that wasn't dark. He didn't want to be the creepy figure in an alleyway; he wanted to be bright and heroic like the heroes he watched on the news.

Of course, he didn't have money like Tony Stark, nor was he royalty like Thor, so he had to make do with what he was given.

Red hoodie sleeves were cut off and thrown away, and the remainder was carefully sewed onto a blue sweatshirt. He didn't sew them at the very edge of the sleeve, figuring he would need the most flexibility he can get in the fabric while still having it stay together.

He then grabbed a fabric sharpie from the kit and drew a big spider on the front, and then smiled at his work. It was simple and plain, but he somehow liked it that way.

The bottom of the suit didn't need any kind of stitch work done. He remembers that part clearly as well.

That leaves the final part of the suit, excluding the accessories. The mask.

Peter had half a dozen reasons for wearing the mask, ranging from safety of the emotional and physical variety to not wanting to be arrested. After all, vigilantes weren't favoured by the authorities.

Whether Peter realizes it or not, the real reason for the mask is that he was and still is scared. He's scared of his family getting hurt, he's scared of showing weakness to enemies, he's scared of getting bugs in his mouth—you name it.

But Peter was also brave, so he put on the mask and went out there to fight the bad guys anyways. He finishes sewing the goggles onto the mask and then puts it on. The technological part of it was great. He had used an older pair of his glasses, a pair where the prescription was weaker, and functioned the actual glass into a sensory dampener.

They didn't blur his vision out completely, but toned it down so his sight was easier to take in. His perception worked a lot better with them on, making them great for patrols. He was quite proud of this particular invention, and still is.

The first time he puts on the whole suit, stitched and mismatched with old clothes and bits of handmade technology; he looks in the mirror and stands tall.

He was proud of this suit, and he was excited to do as much good with it as he could muster in his punches.

And it all started with a stitch.
