Eris wasn't the best at sailing, but it didn't take them long to slightly get the hang of it. Oftentimes Ara' Sei, Cedric, and Zerai would use their magic to grant the sails brief gusts of wind, which was certainly helpful.
About three days after the group had left from Erathir, the chill became evident. Even as the sun remained high in the sky, the whole group could see their breath in the air in puffs of steam. Cedric held a flame in his hand, it was a spark of warmth in his cold surroundings. Thankfully, with the cold air and the slight warmth of the sun, wind was in abundance. Zerai and Ara' Sei stayed by the stern of the ship.
"It's frightening, yet beautiful here." Ara' Sei said.
"What do you mean?" Zerai asked.
"It's an endless expanse of water that would kill us within half an hour if we fell in. But it's beautiful, and blue." Ara' Sei said.
"Well, just know that if someone does fall in, we'll be more than ready to get them out. Cedric could turn into some swimming creature, I have a spell that can make someone fly, Ella is a very good swimmer. It is still somewhat dangerous, but we've faced worse." Zerai said. Ara' Sei nodded.
"I suppose you're right." Ara' Sei replied. There was a moment of pause where the two stared off the back of the stern. They watched the wake of the ship in the deep blue sea. They watched the horizon, a constant reminder of the ocean's size. Then, Ara' Sei clutched Zerai's hand and pulled herself closer to him. He looked at her with his dazzling golden eyes before looking back out at the horizon. Ara' Sei spent the next few minutes, her mind switching between being trapped in the enormity of the horizon and the comfort in Zerai's golden eyes.
Then, she looked down, and with a whisper she let light dance between her fingers, golden and dazzling. Then, the light was snatched from her hands. Her eyes followed it, and it rested in Zerai's hands. It looked like the sun's glare off the sea, dazzling and overwhelming, yet small. With a snap of his fingers it flew back into Ara' Sei's fingers.
"What... was it like for you when you first found this power?" Ara' Sei asked. Zerai pondered for a moment.
"When I first found this power it was one of the strangest things I'd ever experienced. Suddenly I had control over things I shouldn't be able to control. It was strange, and I still don't think I could describe it even if I had all the time in the world. What does it feel like for you?"
"Well, I've had it for as far back as my memory goes, I don't remember a time where I couldn't. Thinking about how the world around me can be bent is like breathing, I just do it. It's something I can do, it's something I know I can do." Ara' Sei explained, raising her hand over the water and making it ripple and glitter.
"It's a gift, I think." Ara' Sei said, before walking back towards the sail to see if Ella and Eris needed her help.
